Although not a rangefinder, I have just purchased a Contax TVS p&s, it looks like a very nice, solid camera and am taking it to the lovely seaside town of Tenby (West Wales) tomorrow to test it out.

Would people on this Rangefinder forum be interested in my opinion (very amateur opinion) of this camera when I get the photos back??

I have owned a Contax G1 in the past and regretted getting rid of it, so when I was looking for a pocketable camera decided to try out the TVS.

I'm sure we'd be interested (I would be anyway - I'm toying with getting a Contax P&S to go with my G2 kit). There's a separate point 'n' shoot forum as well, and there'd be interest there.

Russ

PS Where in South Wales? - there's a couple of us from Swansea who post here.

Russ,

I'm from Bedwas, just outside Caerphilly.

I'm taking my wife on a nice daytrip to Tenby as it was her Birthday earlier on in the week and I went to the Dragons versus Scarlets game instead of taking her out for a romantic meal!!!! I have some bridges to build:p and I can test out the new camera!!!

My initial thoughts on the TVS is that it is a beautifully engineered camera and feels really solid, something I think is important when handling a camera.

I'm looking forward to seeing the results.

I will post my thoughts on the P&S forum aswell, thanks.

Russ, you are lucky to live in Swansea with the Mumbles and Gower being so close, some lovely locations to shot.

Ach if only. I live in Yorkshire with some other lovely locations to shoot.

Enjoy Tenby, the camera and the day with your wife. I won't say enjoy the Dragons because I'm an Ospreys fan (and Bradford and Bingley Bees). :p

I have a first version TVS for two years now, it served me well in Cuba when I rode the workers bus downtown and for some casual shots around here. The flash is good enough for almost everything you might shoot with the 28-56 lens and the exposure compensation makes up for the missing manual modes. DX coded film only is a slight problem for me, most of my B/W cartridges are not coded (Addox CHM 400)

Hi, I just purchased a ContaxTVS on Ebay from a camera shop. I have a couple of questions which you might have some thoughts on. While the flash is charging ( blinking) other display elements are seen in the viewfinder which is contrary to what the manual stipulates. Is this a problem? Also why does my viewfinder black out sometimes and I have to move the zoom dial to get it back on? Thanks, Sourmug

Looks like an empty battery to me. The camera turns off which is shown with a mask in the viewfinder.

I would be curious as well - your opinion of the point & shoot would be appreciated. Please do post - I look forward to reading it.
