Hello all I am a new member here but have been a tourist for longer than I would like to admit ;)
I have a chance to pick up a Hex 1.2/50 for an average if not slightly low price. It's SN is later than 1800. I understand that the later lenses are thought to have less focus issues with non-Hexar cameras (is this true?). I shoot a a couple of Besa's, a ZI, R D1, and now an M8.
The fast lens fever does not actually flow through my system but, I have found the high ISO settings on the M8 mostly pretty filthy. The R D1 better but mostly for in camera B+W JPGS. I thought about a CV 1.2/35 but, when I want the extra speed it is usually in nightclubs or street scenes where extra reach is also favorable.
At the risk of beating this to death. Could I hear some opinions or maybe see some samples to make a case for purchase? Desiring a modern fast look. I already have the Canon and find it's signature is overbearing when you don't want it.

Cheers
Andy

You need convincing....?

Let's look at it this way: if you end up not liking it, you won't have a hard time unloading it. And, if the price you're paying is as good as you say it is, you probably won't lose much on resale, to put it mildly.

I'm betting you'll like it, but the next move is up to you.

Edit: If you do a search on that lens here, you'll find at least a few threads with exmples of what the lens can do. Of course, this isn't a substitute for snapping one on your camera body and having a go with it, but it might offer up a few hints as to its general performance.

Edit 2: Welcome to RFf! (First things last...sorry about that!)

All I know is I'd love to try that lens myself. I'm with Barrett. Why wouldn't you try it if you're able to afford one?

i've read about the focus issues, but i never experienced them on my m7. that aside, it was the sharpest lens wide open that i ever used.

Still in the very early process of setting up a personal web site, I have already added an article on the lens, it's here and in the near future will be extended with both shots and additional info on the lens.

Like Barrett said, there's quite a number of threads here to read on the lens. I have a mint kit with a lens and Titanium Hexar RF for sale, drop me a PM line for the evilbay item nr.

Like someone said... you still need convincing ?

Put it this way, the 1.2 50 Hex is the closest thing there is to the Noctilux.

So if you want something similar to that, you have to pay 2.500 ( at least ) extra.

That should be enough to convince you.

And if you are buying it below price, go for it.

You can resell it if you dont like it for minimal loss, if any.

Leica lens are like stocks. The more you keep them, the more money you get from them.

I never lost money reselling a Leica lens, until now. I sold a lens 2 months after I bought it.

I usually keep them for 1 year.

But I usually buy lens that are sought after. And the 50 1.2 is one of them

Well I bought one. Not the same one as the seller decided to try eBay again in fall.
Just as well the one I got is mint as well and from a member here :)

All the better. Show us what you do with the lens once you've had it a while. Best of luck with it!
