I will say that the future looks good for compact P&S cameras with big sensors.

It looks nice but I want to see the Ricoh - ergonomically speaking, I have yet to see any point and shoot camera beat the GRD series.

True... very true. But I think we are only seeing the very beginnings of many large sensor compacts. The more that come out, the better the prices will be.

No EVF, a stop slow on the lens (for my tastes), not a fan of 28mm, and no on-sensor PDAF. So it's likely going to be well behind the X100S in terms of AF speed.
Still, nice to see them release something like this. I do like the looks of it.

Personally I very much welcome the omission of viewfinder. This way I can slip it into my pocket. Can't do that with X100. Personal opponion of course, and I'm not making it my main camera, for that I have others WITH a viewfinder. Still that doesn't take away from the fact that this will make a great street camera.
Another thing that impressed me is how spot on the exposure is. Last night I was pointing it into some very tricky lit scenes and the images left little else to wish for. Also, I've disabled the AF assist lamp and AF had no issue with focusing at night, unless I was pointing it at something very dim.
Samples soon. Damn these daylight saving months!

My RX100 is eminently more flexible, however I like the direction this is headed.
If it sported a 28mm f1.8 lens...throw a 28 finder in the hot shoe and this would be Daido Moriyama's next camera.

Nice.. I also wish that it had a built in evf.. But it looks pretty compact. These are interesting times.. Apsc is the sweet spot and the competition is just going to make things more interesting.
At least u can throw an ovf on it unlike the rx100.

The boxy design seems rather ordinary. That could work in the camera's favor by making it less of a target to thieves.
I saw it with a cylindrical optical viewfinder that slides into the hot shoe. No price listed for the viewfinder.
The lens (7 elements in 5 groups) is a 28mm equivalent. It's f/2.8.
Here is Nikon USA's page on the camera.
