Copyrights issues !

I'm sure it's been covered before but. .. ... Most times when i come to RFF at the top of the forum is a very nice collection of pictures. Each with a name and copyright symbol. So my question is (in the USA)is the material auto copyrighted because it's been published(here). Did (Is)the artist do more, file a formal notice for each creation? If so how much extra does that cost the photographer or is everything else that is produced covered? I'm not expecting to embark on a major release of material soon but was wondering.

Your photos are automatically copyrighted as soon as they are fixed in a tangible medium. No need to register (unless you plan to sue somebodoy for infringement). Also, no need to include the copyright symbol.

No problem. The copyright office has a pretty good faq that should answer most, if not all, basic copyright questions. Worth checking out if you need more detail.
