Where I’m at you’d be hard pressed to tell there’s a mandatory “shelter in place” order in effect. People are still out in droves, playing on the beach, going to parks, hanging out in groups, etc. It’s extremely frustrating to witness, and it’s going to lead to police / military enforcement if people don’t start to listen.

As a photographer I would like to be out there documenting at a time like this because I think it’s important to record, but simultaneously I don’t want to risk my health or the health of others either.

I’ve had too much time in isolation already I can tell but I’m just more frustrated than anything else.

Yeah. Up until last summer, a city employee would come in this very park and remove the hoops at 6PM, because some neighbour complained about the noise who knows how many years ago. It took an NBA championship to change that.

As you probably notice, the wide angle 135 next to the camera with the normal lens is for close encounter full body portraits.

As a photographer I would like to be out there documenting at a time like this because I think it’s important to record, but simultaneously I don’t want to risk my health or the health of others either.

The people on the beaches and hanging out in groups should be rounded up and locked in quarantine centres, they are completely irresponsible. In Australia, the Queensland government went ahead with local council elections, ordering over a million people to vote at the polling stations, despite also banning the public gathering of 10 or more people.

I drove through the City and a couple of the livelier suburban streets last night around 9.30pm. Usually there's a fair bit of activity, even on a Sunday night, but now it was just parked cars, darkened shop windows, and the occasional takeaway shop, illuminated like an oasis, with delivery drivers outside. Didn't even get out of the car, took photos along the way while driving. I'm trying to balance photographic urges with self preservation.

I've gone the other way with same camera but trying three different developers and dilutions on two different films. Lots of permutations that way. But I may get to trying different cameras...

It's beautiful folks..no pollution, no noise, fresh clean air..
I can see buildings in far distance, normally haze.
Snap images on way to supermarket.
Oh! The basketball players and rip off yellow ribbons on playground,
shown TV was my Lady's building!
They are continually doing it! Fines might be a damper..

Surely that can't be right?

If so, it means anyone infected can and will easily spread it to one other person...and then another when they're in another 'group' of two :bang:

If those are the rules, they need to be tightened and urgently.

So I got up at 5.30 this morning in an attempt to shoot the City when everything was quiet. Sunrise was at 7.30, but I wanted to be in early to capture blue hour. By the time I was in the City, it was 6.30, but there was not a parking space in sight. Every bay was filled with some kind of white work vehicle, probably since there is no charge to park between 7.30pm and 7.30am the next morning, and then you get another one or two hours depending on where you parked. And not only were cars parked everywhere, but there was a steady stream of cars driving through. This was not the bleak and empty scenario I had envisioned.

After driving for a hour (!) I drove up to park at Docklands. It's usually quiet up that way, anyway. When I arrived at the boardwalk by the water, with all the boats moored in the dock, I was surprised at how many people were out walking. And at least half of them coughed or sneezed as they went past. As per social distancing, I kept a wide berth from everyone, made extra wide by their sputterings.

I managed to shoot some vaguely useful images and footage, then just packed it in and went home. I don't know, but this whole situation has me feeling unsafe. You never know if the person with a cough just has a tickly throat, or if they harbour a mutated death bringer. At the least, the fever, coughing diarrhea and fatigue would be really inconvenient. Not to mention the possibility of infecting others. So I think that's it for my attempts to shoot the City for now. I'll have to be content with macros of flowers, butterflies and bees in the back yard.

A few days ago, I posted an image in this thread of a sign I saw at a local playground indicating that the play equipment was NOT sanitized against the Covid-19 virus.

Now things have changed from just a few days ago. Now there is the equivalent of crime scene tape around the structures on the playground. I also saw signs indicating that the park is closed due to an order from Oregon's governor, Kate Brown
