ebay has been of little use to me and i'm not having any luck on most of the used camera sites i frequent.

can someone give me a reliable ballpark cost for a nice hexar af?

many thanks,
joe

i saw that one too but is that in the 'normal' range?
there are 2 on ebay now, one for about 600 bucks and the other a bit less.

i think prices have gone up. grab the one from keh while you still can! ones with a little wear go in the low $500s.

Someone please kick me now :bang: :p

I sold mine (mint condition) for $450 a few years ago.

Actually, I sold it because despite its great lens, I decided that I couldn't live with idiosyncrasies

THose prices seem expensive. Here is Oz I picked one up 2 years ago at a local regular camera shop second hand for A$599 which I thought was pricey. It doesn't seem so now!

I bought my Hexar Classic in mint (new) condition for 40,000 Yen here in Japan.

I've seen non-classics going cheaper although if you fancy the gold one, my local camera shop is selling it for around 120,000 Yen although this one is perhaps not the best choice for stealth photography ;).

I'd also take the one for 325 USD. Last year I paid 598 CHF (519 USD) for my first one including the flash from a dealer in Switzerland. Maybe you get one on ebay for a little less than 325 USD but I would not count on it, looking at the rates here in Germany. My second one was a snap from a local dealer (without flash, incl. 1 year guarantee) for 199 EUR (268 USD). Both are standard black models. Classics or Rhodium go for (lot) more. One classic went for 423 EUR (569 USD) as far as I remember.

I paid about 450 $ usd. about 3 months ago, locally, here in Scandinavia - But that was for a Hexar AF Titanium (not silver, classic, rhodium ect.) - I think the Black and silver versions go for less.....version type doesn´t really matter, as they can be upgraded to Auto bracketing,Stealth mode ect. via D.I.Y.

It´s great camera - wouldn't part with mine and that one at Keh sounds like the one to go for.

Cheers,

Meakin

Joe, as you may know from my recent postings and my additions to my gallerry I recently took my Hexar Silver out of mothballs for a trip to Lanzarote. I have to say I can't understand why I haven't used it more in the past (about a dozen rolls used).
The lens is excellent and if you can cope with the fixed 35mm lens then it's a great street shooter.
I took this on holiday as my main camera and it proved it's worth.

BTW I ahd an e-mail on Friday from Jonathan Harris, a UK dealer. He keeps me updated weekly. He has a Hexar in at 245GBP. Don't know if this is a good deal for you or not. But I have to say this guy is excellent to deal with as he only deals in Mint or Near Mint gear.

n the past I have bought Contax lenses, flashgun, filters and recently a grip for my R and it all looked as new.
See his site at jonathanharris.co.uk

Joe, as a possibly more attractive alternative to the Hexar AF.... KEH has a Bargain Contax G1 body for $199. Their G1 for $179 won't accept the 35mm lens, but will take the 28 they have for $225. They also did have a 35mm f/2 Planar for $205, and probably will again. A Photo.net member recently sold a 35 Planar for $135, what a deal. So, for something like $335 if you're lucky, or otherwise for $404, you have an auto-focus RF with AE and auto-winder like the Hexar, but with 1/2000 sec max shutter speed rather than 1/250 sec. Check 'em out at http://www.keh.com/shop/class.cfm?bid=CG&sid=newused&crid=10287666

I had one in my hands. They're nice and handsome if you like them, but I found it too big. Dissapointingly big... Larger than a Canonet.

Not to rain on your parade, joe. I still think it's a great camera to replace a Bessa. Only remember: it's a fixed lens machine.

Good luck in your trade! :) If it helps, I'll keep an eye open for Hexars of this kind...

Now that I remember, they had one in Central Camera in Chicago a while ago. Only the price was a bit high for my expectations: around $400. You can call them or e-mail them. Their site is www.central-camera.com

Thanks for the Central Camera link, Francisco! I hadn't been there before. They have a very low price for a new (apparently) 45mm Planar for Contax G, only $189 "Special Price".

thanks for all the heads up guys.
i'm in a no cash situation so i need to trade or sell the bessa kit to buy an af.

i want the af instead of another camera cause i want the fixed 35/2 lens. it has a cult following and i want not to have to choose which lens to use. and really, 35mm is my preferred focal length.
i've seen the hexar in person and the size is fine for me. it's still smaller than my canons.

I bought my silver AF for $386 with flash, box and papers about a month ago. Black models were going for about a hundred dollars more. There's no advantage to the black model unless you like black. The camera fills the roll I thought it would: a camera that would focus in low light or could focus faster than I could in normal light. An expensive niche to fill, but fortunately, the lens is of high enough quality to use as your normal 35mm under any circumstances.
