Hi, I'm wondering if there's any way to repair a cracked viewfinder for a Canon Canonet GIII QL17. I got the camera as a gift from an old friend who picked it up at a Goodwill store, and it seems the only problem is the cracked viewfinder! Is there any way to painlessly replace the glass without messing anything up? I'm notorious for fudging up DIY projects, so if you've any input, thanks!

It possibly is a rectangular piece of plain glass. You might be able to get a glass cutter and some glass from a small photo frame and cut it yourself. Or you probably could use Plexiglass, although that's prone to picking up scratches.

Yes sir, front glass of the VF, unfortunately. I guess the disassy is the big issue, acquiring the glass isn't gonna be too bad.

Thanks a lot g'man. Where can I find info on how to remove the top of this camera? Whenever I search google, all I get is camera repair manuals for sale.

I have a dead/parts Canonet 28 with a decent top plate, good front windows, some brassing around the strap lugs, no dents 8.5/10. It looks like it would go onto a QL17 GIII, of course it is engraved differently. That would save having to unglue/reglue. Let me know.

I have a good front glass for a QL17 GIII...It has already been removed and its available for $5.00 + shipping from zip 62095.....also other QL17 GIII parts aviable.
