"G'Man," or whatever, this is exactly what I mean. No one seems to be paying attention to what I am saying. Maybe if I type in capital letters, it will get through to some of you. MY INTIAL POST WAS NOT INFLAMMATORY. I MEAN YOU NO HARM. I AM TRYING TO START A CONSTRUCTIVE DIALOGUE. Your condescention amazes me. That you would automatically try to dismiss me is not only insulting, but disappointing. I have, at this point given up hope. I cannot get through to you all. Good luck in all your endeavors, and I am sure that your progressive, and welcoming forum (ssooo much different than the "horrendous" Photo.net) will flourish.

I wish people would read (or be respectful,)

Hey, I just discovered I have 7 sliderules and one, what's it called, circular sliderule which I don't use. Guess what I did? I searched Ebay for sliderules and found the circular Aristo like that my father once had. It had a buy it now price 🙂

Yeah, I'm a collector!

Or not? I just took one out to calculate Rodinal 1+50 for my 450ml tank.

Phew, I'm a user after all 🙂

harrison, or whatever,

put downs based on spelling are beneath us all.

grow up or get out, the choice is simple and it's all yours!

I guess that means we will not be seeing an excess of gear being turned over to us collectors.

Real photographers should be allowed to concentrate on the Image, and not have to fuss with these old mechanical Rube Goldberg cameras. They should be using AF SLR's. Why one of them traded me an Old Nikon S4 for an N8008! Any more takers?

another defection

another defection

Seems like another photoector.. errrr collographer....ummmm... whatever,
somebody has left the fold, because of a perceived slight. This is a relatively busy site, and has a LOT of people involved. That said, it is also mostly a group of civil, intelligent people with a common interest in RF cameras. Most of us use the cameras, but some of us extend that into buying a number that we consider desirable, pleasing, useful and even (gasp) exciting.
I've purchased several cameras that I read about and lusted after when I was a kid. I remember reading the Minicam article on the Ansco Automatic Reflex (wow, have I dated myself there), and I wanted one. But they cost almost $200! Yikes, I was barely in HS, and that was a lot of money. Never managed one then, but I do own 2 of them now. I've used both, but I just enjoy them as objects, as well.
I collect Canon gear, because I bought an FTb new, and used it and liked it.
Now I also collect the RF models, and I use them as well. A "real" collector would be horrified, probably, because they may get banged, dinged, tweaked or otherwise bruised from the use. So maybe I'm not a pure collector. An accumulator of things I like, that's maybe the proper description.
And I like to take pictures, but I don't have the "eye". I try, but it isn't easy. I admire those that do have the ability to capture the mundane or the beautiful, and transform it into a captured image. I keep trying, and I also acquire another camera/lens on occasion. Because I fondly remember it from a long time ago, or because I'd like to try it out, and see what I really think about it.
Can't respond to the poll as written, because, yes, I'm a collector, but yes, I like to take pictures.
Now I've confused myself.... where is that 1942 article on the Canon.... read it again..

If you have the right cameras, you can be a professional picture maker, or so it seems from reading the boards. There are no exceptions. 🙂

Reminds me of an old Smothers Brothers song based on a western tune something about the streets of El Paso... Anyway, the distorted lyrics sung by the brothers went about like this, "He sees by my outfit that I am a cowboy; I see by his outfit he is a cowboy too. We see by our outfits that we are both cowboys; if you get an outfit you can be a cowboy too!"

Well, after I bought my pristine Leica CL and posted that I am now a Leica photographer, everyone flipped. So there must be something to this. 😀

I think harry01562 hit the nail on the head for me by suggesting accumulator instead of collector. The same with not having an eye for it but hacking away anyway and enjoying myself in the process.

Actually I have given serious thought to a Leica. Not because it will do wonders for my photos. But the great engineering appeals to me.
OOPS, my gearhead side is showing.🙂
Good thought! I like top-quality gear for the engineering aesthetics too, but mostly because it's not likely to limit my results. That is, "no excuses", and any faults are subject to self-improvement. 😀

G'Man.... Turning to the Darkside.

You know that I had to sell off the Canonator because it kept attacking the Leica's and taking the Summarit.

I still do not understand the shame that pervades collecting. Collectors are not inferior, nor are they eunuchs.

I never ever said so, nobody else said so, and you know that very well. 😡 The eunuch joke was made related to the man with the Ferrari in his living room, teaching me lessons abot the superior abilities of the car, not to any collectors in general. Everybody can read it.

ALL l I said ever was adressed to that special kind of collectors who insist in beeing photogs to improve their image, but are obviously not interested in photography on the other hand. I said too, that even among those I adress nobody in this forum, not kowing if this kind exists at all here
In fact I I had some guys in my mind I know from a list and two other forums.

I told you that twice already and asked you to re-read my words. Nonetheless you insist again and again that collectors in general were called eunuchs, which would be a more than rude and offensive statement idiotic anyway..

I don't know if this differentiaton exceeds your intellectual capacities or if you are mean enuff to find this intentive misunderstanding better for a heated discussion.
Unfortunately I have to see that some stepped into that trap you have built here with this seaking thread ! .

No matter what it is, you set fire on the peace of this community and be assured, I am not willing to allow a 18yo arrogant schoolboy to let him abuse my words for that purpose. 😡 😡

And don't call me "friend" again ! Having friends like you I'd need no enemies anymore.

Take care !

G'man, Canonators are well known for having special affective needs. After all, one doesn't grow 30 years hearing things like 'look at that ugly camera', or 'hey a borg assimilated it' or 'bugeyes canon' and leaves unwounded 😛

I'm a collector type, and i'm also what u call a "gear head", so i'm never satisfied...I collect the things i love, and looking through a camera's view finder is an uncomparable feling...
But i wouldn't rhwo my money for the sake of collection(if i have any) 😀 So it's more about helping my personal carft of photography, learning, understanding, trying, collecting is experiencing, now i remmeber i've posted somewhere a similar post on a similar thread, but i can't find, were i dreaming or what??
