crumpler question

I wish I saw this earlier, but I would have been home from vacation a day early too. I just opened up my package containing my new Bare Bones Bag. It is very nice Joe, sounds like what you were looking for. I am sure the Crumpler will work out for you. I bet it is pretty similar to the BBB.

I actually had both, the BBB is like a deflated 5 Mil Home, if that makes sense. The crumpler is also a tad higher & obviously since it has padding it looks quite boxy. I sold the BBB in the end though, because I needed something that could carry my D700 & RF gear in.

The BBB was just a bit too tight with a D700 & 24-70 attached, & the lack of dividers made me a bit worried that things would be bouncing around in there. It still is a great bag, it's flatness makes it ideal for bringing one bag for storage, then transferring things to the BBB for the day. In the end I needed a bag that did both so the 5 mill home it was.

Hope that helps!

well, i'm not liking the 5 mil bag too much.
it does the job fine, lots of room but it seems too bulky. i keep wanting to ask people if this bag makes my ass look fat 😉

i may go for the fake a&a bag, it looks like what i want. too bad ya have to try them to really know.

Try the BBB or the BBB2, then. For everything else you could say, it's the least-bulky purpose-made camera bag out there...I'd get the bigger one for a less purselike look and a little more internal working room. I can store/carry in a regular BBB easily, but swapping lenses and digging for film/filters is kinda tight.

the bbb does not look all that functional to me. i like some padding, at least the padding of a divider.
this fake a&a bag looks perfect for my needs, one body with lens attached and 2 more lenses plus sd cards and batteries etc.
i like the no zippered in top and it looks like it should be easy to put in and take out gear.

Well, I'm going with a regular Courierware myself, which I hope will work better for me than the Bare Bones...

so far i like the inside of the 5 million $ bag but not so much the outside.
don't care for the 2 dangling clips and the velcro is way louder and stronger than on the domkes.

and during my morning outing today, i saw 3 guys using the same bag! same colour even...

glad my fake a&a is on the way.

yeah, i don't like this bag. the strap is too wide and too slippery and the edges (of the strap) are knife like they are so hard.
too bad cause i really like the insides.
i'm selling the 5 million dollar bag, look to the classifieds soon.

I have close to the opposite experience, I find the strap works really well over the shoulder.

I ordered a fake A & A bag which came already, I can tell you, that strap is VERY thin. To me, it hurts like hell without padding. I had to put a domke postman strap pad to stop it from hurting. I guess your experience might be different. It doesn't slide off though, but I found neither of the bags did.

Also the fake A & A is very rectangular, almost like a video camera bag. Not really my preferred shape, but I have been told by numerous females it looks "very formal" when compared to the crumpler. Something you would expect someone at work in an office or a wedding to wear. Good or bad depending on the look you're going for I guess. Still, depsite the strap, I like it. I'm pretty sure the top flap is real leather but I'm not 100%, I mean, it is a knock off from China so who knows. It smells real though. Also, the bag is about the same width & length as the 5 million but about half the height.

Anyways, hope you have better luck with the fake A & A when it comes!

the bag has arrived, good first impression.
a touch bigger than the domke 5xb while maintaining the same rectangular shape.
looks sorta classy though the leather front could be mistaken for pleather.
the inside holds pretty much the same gear as the 5xb but there is no zippered top just a nice large opening giving easy access to gear, very easy in and out. i guess those who feared nicking their gear with the plastic zipper on the 5xb would be happy about that.
the bag is made of nylon not canvas and is much lighter feeling than the 5xb. it might need to be water proofed. the strap is not as long as the 5xb and while still long enough to wear around the neck i'd like a few inches added to it. it's hard to beat the gripper strap for ruggedness and that no slip grip.

so for me, i now need to decide where to put the second rd1 kit, into the 5xb, get another of these -oskar day bag- clones or keep looking for yet another bag entirely.

I would get a crumpler bag if not for that horribly irritating dreadlock-sporting wanker logo. It just screams "I enjoy life!!! Need a ride to Burning Man?"

Domke F-803 is my speed...boring and functional!
