CV 35/1.2 + Guitar Collection -> Sample Images

I got a chance to shoot at a private guitar collection (30+ guitars) yesterday. I used the CV 35/1.2 and a M7, and Fuji Superia 400. It was pretty informal, and because of the location of the room (light), I couldn't get shots of all the guitars. I'm planning on going back with some lights, but I never tire of the benefits of shooting with an RF (low light, fast lens and handheld).

Here are just a few of the shots. I thought I'd post some as I scan and run them through PS. Scanner: KM DiMage Scan Elite 5400 II, Vuescan, 8 samples, no sharpening:

nice lens Ray, what brand of guitars are those...looks like Strat knockoffs?

no knockoffs there. Those are all Strats on this end of the wall, just various editions, years, some with custom shop accessories, some modified, etc. The electrics are primarily Fenders, Sures, Andersons and Ibanez.

well, if you're gonna put it like that then everything is either a Fender or a Gibson knockoff. 😀 I thought there would be some appreciation/empathy for guitar GAS.

Thanks, Ted. I actually thought of you when I was there because he has a bunch of tweed amps. 😉 I took a pic of a small Fender reissue we were playing through. It sounded soooo good!

I sat for a minute trying to argue against this...still thinking.

My guitar GAS was smothered when I got my tele with p90 and a bigsby. In other words a "partscaster". Now I am onto cameras, hopefully by spring I will stop looking through classifieds!

It's an arguable statement, made in jest, and one that I'll not stand behind nor attempt to defend. 😀

My feeling is Spring will come and go, and you'll still be looking (peeking, maybe). I was struck by the similarities between owning 10 Strats and owning 10 50mm RF lenses, between owning 80 effect pedals and 15 camera bodies and numerous lenses. It's a sickness that crosses many "hobbies." 🙂

I am a bargain hunter... it takes me forever to buy anything. I rarely consider the time spent researching every possible option, while I could be practicing arpeggios or shooting. I guess I don't mind knowing a little about almost every amp, guitar, camera, lens out there

I'm actually completely cured from guitar gas, I've had the same rig for 2 years now and havn't thought about changing a piece of it, it was a workhouse in the studio and it's still perfect for me, it's a nice feeling, I'm waiting for my camera set up to get to the same place.


I'm moving my guitar rig out to san francisco this next month, excited as hell.

I played a Strat with lace sensors once. Wow! don't have the skill to have GAS for guitars though. I realized this one day when I was telling a friend who is magnificent on the guitar that I didn't like the sound of my gorgeous Gretch jumbo acoustic. After hearing him play it I realized it wasn't the guitar! I have stuck to cameras ever since. He quit photography too. Go figure.

I know what you mean. I was "playing" these guitars through various amps and pedals. Actually, the more effects we put inline, the better I sounded! 😀 I still really like the sound of a Strat plugged straight through to a Twin Reverb, or Bassman.
