I guess I'm the outlier here, but unlike Voigtlander's other offerings - the 40 1.2, 50 1.2, new SL lenses - this design is a mess to me.
Multiple different finishes. Some glossy, some matte. Some black, some silver. Some stuff ribbed. Stuff poking out.
The Leica lens looks stunning in comparison.

The new CV lenses are called "vintage line", so you can't compare them to actual designs.
If you don't like it, take other modern lenses.

It is really small, that is great. I'm sure it is optically great too, but with a user lens like this the ergonomics are equally important. Why not all black? Why a stick instead of a tab? Why that clumsy bayonet fitting for the shade?
To be positive too: I think that with the stick removed focusing can be done with the ring only too. There seems to be enough space between the f/stop ring and the dept-of-field scale ring.
Erik.

Yeah I didn't really notice when I posted the photo, but the matt and glossy black does look odd. The weird thing though, is that to the naked eye both the "matt" and "glossy" black look the same. So I'm a bit puzzled as to why the photo turned out like that...Multiple different finishes. Some glossy, some matte. Some black, some silver. Some stuff ribbed. Stuff poking out.
someone check the bokeh wide open and closeup, then stopped down 2 stops!

Well, I'm not playing barbies with my lenses, but the only cute Leica made lens I know is Canadian 35 1.4. Lens size, aperture size and amount of metal are well balanced.
Remaining question is how is handling? Focus ring, Skopar regular? How is the aperture ring?

To be positive too: I prefer a tab or stick in comparison to a ring a lot, so for me it's fine.
O.k., a tab would be nicer but better a stick than nothing ...

Is the CV 35/2 comparable to the ZM 35/2? Is it at $799 the better deal?

I'd rather pay 1600$ tax, free shipping for two new lens than 2K$+ for Huss's barbilishois and single lens, used.
But as usual it is USA only. So, I'll wait for my Japaneese and HK buddies.
Except, if BlackCat negotiate normal price for us with Downtown camera.

I just googled this lens in Sony mount. Two reviews on first search return page showing soft edges.

Not sure which images you meant. I looked at Philip Reeve's, and Fred Miranda's reviews, and the E-mount lens looks to be a great performer. Their direct comparisons with the Loxia 21/2.8 (a lens twice as large) show that the CV lens is not quite as sharp, especially at wider apertures in mid-frame areas, but it is definitely not soft and fringing. If the VM lens has the same performance as the E-mount lens I will be very happy!

SHARPNESS. It is crap soft on the corners.

Chromatic Aberrations. It is just awful.
I give no s#t for lohia (ugliest lenses on Earth) and Sony (toyota face), but they keep on saying it is same lens as on sony mount.

Dude relax, we are talking about camera lenses
Thanks for providing links to images. Sharpness in the corners seems acceptable to me. Even Mr. Reeve said he will be keeping his Color Skopar and passing on the Loxia.
Photographyblog's review is interesting. Not sure I really care about fringing at the level of pixel peeping they are saying they saw it. I'm a little skeptical of their review of the 21/3.5 Color Skopar though. At the end it says 'In summary, the Voigtlander Nokton Classic 35mm F1.4 is a very compact, extremely well-built and affordable wide-angle prime lens for full-frame E-Mount Sony owners.'

I'd be interested in trying the Voigtlander 35mm f2 Ultron "Vintage" lens as I always found the Leica 35mm Summicron ASPH rendered too "heavy" for my tastes, too much contrast. Always liked the "lighter" renderings of older "vintage" glass, especially for B&W work.
Since picking up a Voigtlander 50mm f3.5 "Vintage" lens, and really liking it's rendering, I'm wondering if Voigtlander is using a similar optical philosophy for this new 35mm and the 21mm.
Best,
-Tim
