28 Ultron f2 ain't small and have some reputation for focus shifts.
I hope this 35/2 will be better and with normal filter size.
Metal shtuck focus tab is less ergonomical as modern ones, but not going to get loose after plenty of use.
I only recently bought the 28 Ultron f2 and while it isn't as small as the tiny f4 25mm or f4 21mm it isn't a big lens. See attachments with and without the lens hood attached.

I don't really get the 35.
They already have 3 amazing 35mm in production, the Ultron 1.7, the Color-Skopar 2.5 and the Nokton 1.2, so one more lens in that same focal length seems kinda useless to me.
Really really excited about the 21mm though. I guess it's gonna replace the actual f/4, hopefully with better performance on digital sensors

I was at Photokina, went to the Voigtländer booth: But at the time I was there it was totally crowded, so I decided to come back later.
But then I have lost so much time on other booths, that in the end I haven' had enough time to come back to the Voigtländer booth.
This Photokina was very crowded, because they have shrunk it with much less exhibition halls.
Amazing and surprising at the same time was the "film revival". All companies of classic film photography there reported a significant increase in film demand.

Just to be a contrarian ... I find them to be retro-fugly, and the little knob is not my style - I just prefer the bigger tab on the Skopar, for example. The 35/2 is about fifteen years too late in the RF game - could have really changed things up.

I agree with Jerevan that the small knob should be a tab as on de Color Skopar 50mm f/2.5 and that the housing should be all black. And yes, fifteen years ago a distortionless Ultron 35mm f/2 lens would have been more welcome than a distortionfull Nokton 35mm f/1.4. But I don't think that it would have been a commercial success.

My preference would also be for the tabs (like the excellent CV 50 colour Skopar), but I don’t mind the black and chrome mix.

I opted for 28 1.9 and according to the image in the first link it isn't much bigger than 28 2. Yet, it is huge lens. To me.

I don't need tabless 1.7. Same for 1.2. I had tabless 1.7 and it was taking too much time to focus. And my fingers are greasy. So, 1.7 and 1.2 are kinda useless to me.
I had 2.5 in all three versions. The only time I liked it was on M8, but I also liked J-12 on this camera.
I don't like 1.4 extra character, either and focus shift gamble.
So, they have listened to me and 2 is welcome!

The body style is Canon LTM, earlier CV. Nothing fugly.
Again, I have to deal with loosen Scopar tab and it is not something easy to deal with. Lots of disassembling and even then screws are exposed it is still not an easy task. So, the simple shtuck is welcome. After lens is in use for year or so, it is possible to change it to more convenient tab.
Fifteen years ago it was no RF cameras with high ISO sensors. So, now compact 35/2 makes sense even more. And it is still sweet spot on film M.
Not 2.5/2.8 slow, but still safe to have it accidentally open and exposed to the sun on film M.
Here is cheap, new 35/2 on the market this year and many jumped on it. I decided not to due to bad barrel distortion, but I still want to add second 35 lens. This 35/2 seems to be perfect lens for my second 35.

I can`t believe people on RFF are crapping on these lenses... just be thankful you get anything new these days from anyone other than Leica.

I had the ultron 35/1.7 II and hated the handling.. this one looks much nicer.
the question I'd have regarding focus coupling: does the 0.7/0.58m figures come from the cam actually "ending" at 0.7m? I hated that feature on the f/1.7 lens which went even further.
It always gave me a feeling of uncertainty when focusing close.
why don't they add a removable screw for all those digital shooters?

I’m pretty excited by the prospect of the 35/2 in particular. I’d love a smallish 35 for my M2 or CL. I’ve not got a 21 as yet ( being satisfied with 15 and 25mm lenses) who knows I might be tempted if the performance is excellent .

I would think “right on time” as now both Nikon and Canon will be making full-frame digital cameras on which these lenses can be used. Not a coincidence. Perhaps Cosina will be making native R and Z mount versions as well, but lets face it - with a basic adapter, M-mount lenses will fit Sony, Canon, and Nikon full frame mirrorless cameras. It’s the “T2” mount of the future...

Like the designs (Early Nippon Kogaku Nikkor design!) and the focal lengths, I'd spring for the 21mm in that size instantly if it only were available in LTM...

Should be ending at 0.58m for hyperfocal/live view use. I hate it too, since it messes up the focus throw and hampers my ability to focus by feel.
Hope...just hope the production version offers a no frills 0.7m minimum distance, or at least a "dent" at the end of the coupled range like the Nikkor-H 50/2. The live view crowd can have their E-mount lenses.
