I just received my VC 40mm 1.4 SC.!! I don't have the hood yet. Any recommendations for a hood other than the original VC one? How is its performance without hood?

I have both lenses. The 40mm f/1.4 Nokton is very sharp and contrasty. The 50mm f/ 2 Heliar is deceptive because it has lower contrast, but still resolves very fine detail. It also has much smoother OOF area transitions compared to the 40mm Nokton which can be a bit harsh. Here is a 50mm Heliar shot (on an R-D1) from today. The OOF background at the top of the photo is not sky, but rather wind blown snow on clear ice.

I don't know why you can't see the image. I see it OK.
Try this link to the image on my pbase site:

Carl, I like the cat tails shot, with its subtle tones in the lighter values. A keeper for sure, even seen online at low resolution. I had to use your posted URL, as I don't see it here in RFF, and not even the X that Noel mentions. Then in your PBase gallery it came up only as a placeholder/frame, and I had to use "Previous" button (getting the door photo) and then "Next" to see the Cat Tails. (Mac using Firefox browser)

Doug and Noel,
I edited the link and the embedded image comes back for awhile and then disappears again. I guess pbase and/or RFF doesn't like the way I'm using image links.

Had to hack Aperture using the procedure outlined in a LUG thread to get it to import Epson R-D1 files.

i did not care for the wings but got used to them pretty quick.
a dremel would take care of the wings though.

really excellent. Doug since I am thinking that my next purchase will be an Rd-1. Which do you use most?, the R3m or the RD-1?

Since getting the R-D1 I haven't been using the R3M very much and mostly for B&W.kshapero said:really excellent. Doug since I am thinking that my next purchase will be an Rd-1. Which do you use most?, the R3m or the RD-1?

Carl, which lens are you using the most with the RD-1?

I think that I use the 28, 40 and 50 about equally. I haven't used the 21 or 75 very often.kshapero said:Carl, which lens are you using the most with the RD-1?
