CV about to announce an M Mount 50mm f1.1 Nokton!

I meant to add ... my f***ing head is spinning now ... this is all too much!

A new AE MF folder ... an eleven hundred dollar 1.1 50mm M mount lens and Leica releasing a reasonably priced version of the Leica-O

It's all too much ... I need to go and lie down!

But why don't make it a f1 so we could have a true challenge for the noctilux, I have the impression that Cosina is not challenging Leica directly like with the nocton 35mm 1.2. I would like to know what are the true reasons for f1.1
Cheers.

It's just occured to me that obviously Koboyashi hasn't yet heard that ... 'film is dead!' :p

It's about 1/4th of a stop difference. They can get away with a 58mm front, and a lot less glass and weight. AND- F1.1 was the Superspeed lens of the 1950s. The F0.95 did not come out until 1961. There were no F1.1 lenses introduced in over 50 years. Nostalgia.

So- what I want to know is Aspheric surfaces, did they go with Acrylics to keep performance high and cost low. One thing for sure- the lens is going to perform well. Bokeh Schmokeh. Go for speed and overcorrect it for Sharp. I'll break out the Sonnar for smooth.

So the question I have to ask is ... under sales pressure from the new Nokton will Solms resort to offering us white or olive green painted Noctliluxes to keep them going out the door? :p

F 1.1 makes perfectly good sense. it is called the 80-20 rule. 80% of the bang for 20% of the money. and looking at a noct for $5000 and a almost as fast CV 50mm for $1100 ish... that is exactly what they got. probably saving at least 1/3 weight in the process.

Though since we live in this "post crop-factor" world, where suddenly my favorite 50mm was longer... forget 21mm lux and give me a 28mm lux and a 35mm noct. I will pay money for a 28mm 1.4 anytime.

Keith, not very nice. An extra $8,500 for that 1/3rd stop is well worth it. And I'm sure the extra $9,800 over the price of my Canon 50/0.95 is also worth it. It just depends on your budget and requirements.

This new lens should sell like hotcakes.

Funny with those numbers ... in terms of transmission, f1.1 is more than 1/3rd stop apart from f0.95. Similar to the distance of, say, f1.2 and f1.4. And then of course, nobody has compared the real transmission of those two lenses.

Cheers,

Roland.
