David Alan Harvey does it again...

Every single thing he said in that applies just as much to my FE2 or M2 as it does an X-Pro2. Gotta love his work though. I guess being in Magnum doesn't automatically make you a millionaire.

It seems DAH has been shooting Fuji for a while, now. He's used the X100, X-T1, X-T10, and now the X-Pro 2. He's been featured in advertising videos, as well as documentary films, shooting with these cameras.

Is it possible that he likes them? Maybe Fuji saw that opportunity.

In this media-drenched age, if Bresson were alive and shooting, might Leica approach him about advertising?

I guess my point about posting the video is that David Alan Harvey was a Leica shooter--both film and digital--and now he seems to be shooting Fuji. I thought that was interesting, considering that there is so much debate about both on this board. So a working photographer has found new equipment that matches his style for "unobtrusive" while leveraging technology into his workflow.

Its easy to be cynical about such videos. A 71 year old man photographing skateboarders and bikini clad young girls in a sex tourist destination, but that is getting away from the video's message, which is that fuji xpro2 is used by photographers who are progressive and young-at-heart.

My guess is he wouldn't take the job unless he liked the system, but only he'll be able to answer that. It's a shame there are no images from the project, he obviously wouldn't use any of the shots from this choreographed promotion.

He had a few on his instagram while in PR;

Uh-oh. The way they are going, someday Fuji really will become the new Leica.

I am tempted by the X-Pro 2, but I think I will wait for the tech to trickle down into the smaller XE body. Would make a great companion to my Fuji S5 Pro, and the Type 262 I plan to buy in the middle of this year.

Is this Fuji a rangefinder, though? David Alan Harvey's son calls it such. Is the optical viewfinder linked to a real rangefinder? Or is it like the other Fujis -- just rangefinder styled?

I liked it a lot. I spent two summers in San Juan in my youth ('65, '69) and this video depicts Puerto Rico as I knew it quite well. Of course there was no skateboarding back then...
Thanks for posting, David.

Never

Good plan! The only downside is not having an OVF.

Of course it is not a rangefinder camera. It is a virtual rangefinder camera. The OVF simulates how one would use a mechanical RF camera.

I have not looked through the X-Pro 2 OVF, but both my X-T1 and X100T suffer from a very low contrast, faint spit-screen display. However other modes/aids to manually operate the AF in MF mode (including just turning the focus-by-wire lens collar) are effective and practical.

That's a shame. Due to all the hype in the blogs and websites, I thought this time Fuji went with a real rangefinder with the X-Pro 2.

I tried an X-Pro 1 when it first came out and I was not impressed -- I bought a used M8 instead. I wanted a more portable body (lighter, smaller) for travel so I tried an X100, X100s and I was still not impressed. Funnily enough, I preferred the X10's viewfinder - for some reason it didn't get in my way as much as the X100's.

The XT-1 came close, I liked the body much better than the Sony A7 series, and the viewfinder had improved but was still a letdown. Since I wasn't impressed by / comfortable with either the optical or hybrid Fuji VFs, I thought I might as well go full EVF once the tech got as good as the Leica Q's. A 24MP XE3 might just be interesting enough.
