Dead Minolta X-700 suddenly starts working

I bought a supposedly non-working X-700 at the flea market today thinking it was probably the dreaded electrolytic cap failure which I would be able to fix.

After getting it home and removing the bottom plate I found it had the newer cap so I put in 2 fresh 357 silver batteries. No go......no shutter firing and no lit up LED's. A couple of hours later I picked the camera up and found it now works fine..both in auto/program and manual mode.. 😕 😕 😕

Probably a loose connection or corrosion in the battery compartment. Don't you just hate intermittant malfunctions?

I cleaned the battery compartment and checked the wiring for corrosion. I even removed the shutter button plunger and cleaned the contact..

My understanding is the camera was stored for several years so maybe the caps needed reforming...

Hmmm... while reading that article, I remembered of my high school final proof about this and I've always asked myself what is a machine without the conscience to exist and without a database to look for the necessary information to link and react consequently.. what we call "experience".
