Hey guys, just found this on eBay: foto-mundus (German eBay reseller) have ONE C Sonnar 1,5/50 ZM available as a buy-it-now item for the insanely bargain price of € 789,99! This is nearly € 200 less than the usual retail price! If you happen to be looking for one, and live in Germany (or know someone in Germany who can get it for you) - get it now! (I would myself if I had the funds.)

I'm in no way affiliated to them, but I think this is a great deal, and maybe there's someone around here looking for one, so I thought I'd share. You'll find the auction by searching for "sonnar 50mm leica" in eBay Germany.

That's quite a good price indeed.

For clarification: the ad says that the seller will ship within EU, so one does to need to live in Germany or arrange a local pickup in order to buy this. Normally the same seller will ship also worldwide so this might also be negotiable.

Their ads are often a bit inconsistent, for instance on this specific ad it says first that one may decide to take either silver or black version, and a bit lower it says that the lens is silver version. Anyhow the products they sell are usually good, so I'd just advise anyne considering this to clarify any unclear matters (like the color) first.

I bought mine about 1.5 years ago for $800 with the optional hood from an authorized dealer with 1 year warranty.

Yes, a couple of years ago many things were cheaper...

It's quite strange by the way. About 1,5 yrs. ago when the euro was really strong the OEM's (especially japanese) increased their prices significantly. That's quite understandable. But now that the euro is weak the local sellers/ local OEM organisations seem to do the same again.:confused::confused:

if I remember correctly, Monochrom here in Berlin has a special offer on a (new) ZI body with the 1.5/50 for ~1400-1500€ (it's not on their website though).

I agree, ~800€ is still a big bad pile of cash for a lens.

That's a funny thing to say on a slightly Leica biased forum Raid ... I giggled! :D

well... yes and no. if you don't need the newest Leica stuff, it is / can be actually rather cheap. I paid way less than 500€ for each of my M bodies, the most expensive M lens I bought was a VC Nokton 1.2/35 for ~500€, the others were way below that too. the only two Leica (Leitz that is; 50mm 'cron collapsible, 35mm Summaron) lenses I own cost me ~50€ together so far (if I'm selling another item I got with the same deal, I will actually have received money for getting the lenses. :D ).
so, even if it sounds paradoxal, for a Leitz user like me, Leica AND Zeiss can be very to very very expensive:)

That's one argument for buying at least one new Leica lens: after that, just about everything else looks like a bargain...

Cheers,

R.

Keith,

I believe that we need to remind ourselves once in a while of how insane the prices are. Those who have the means or have a job that actually requires such luxury items "are excused", but the rest of us ...

So true Raid! Amazing to think that there are people out there whos purchase of the .95 Noctilux would be a negligable blip on their financial radars.

The healthy flow of premium used items that we have passing through our classifieds is a godsend at times!

Eaxctly; given that we can buy excellent used Leica and Zeiss lenses and lenses by other brands, who really needs a $1000 lens to take good photos with? If you are a professional reporter who also writes on lenses and if your job is to make sure that new lenses and cameras are sold a lot, then this is not really representing the majority of the photography community.

I have made many good buys.

As an example, I paid $250 for a Hexar RF and $150 for a CLA'd 35mm Summicron.
I have bought and old many lenses in the $300-$400 range at RFF.

If you have excess money, then this is a blessing for you. Enjoy it. Spend money.

what a weird direction to this thread has taken. the dude was just giving a heads up on a good price for a new c-sonnar.

You know how it is with forum threads ;) Not so weird though, as others are stating their tips of how to find even better prices for gear - quite to the topic, I think, and maybe helpful for some.

I appologize for the comments if the comments warrent an appology. I am not directing the comments on anyone specific. I believe that as a RFF community we need to be more tolerant of discusisons when led in a civil way.

I see no need for you to apologize - you were merely stating your thoughts, which is what this forum is here for, isn't it? I also don't think you were offending anyone. This is very considerate of you nonetheless :)

I own several M lenses over $2000. They were all bought used.
If I sell them again today or in 5 years time, they'll still be worth $2000 or even more.
Do you know many hobbies were the items you purchase do not actually lose value ? Try golf, skiing, cars, .... ;)
So really instead of having money in the bank at 0.5% interest rate , I prefer enjoying it with photography knowing that I can always cash it back in a couple weeks through classifieds.
