After a 20 year break I've seriously thinking doing my own B&W processing so I'm trying to decide what developer to use. As I will primarily be shooting Arista EDU 100 and 400 I've decided to start out with the Arista¨ Premium Liquid Developer as my main developer but I will also be shooting Delta 3200 at 1000-1600 and was wondering if the Arista was a good choice, looking for fairly nice grain for the speeds given or if I should just order the ILFOTEC to use with the Delta 3200.

Thanks Mike

If you're using Delta 3200 and want "fairly nice grain" then use DDX. If you want grain like buckshot, use Rodinal. I have no knowledge of Arista but if it's optimised for ISO 100-400 films then I suspect it won't be as good as DDX for the Delta. I use DDX on ALL Delta emulsions and also Kodak T-grain film. I use ID-11 for the 100-400 films like FP4+ and HP5+ and dilute Rodinal on APX100 (when I can get it).

Leigh,

Thanks 🙂

I went ahead and added the DDX to my Freestyle order so if there isn't any issue with delivery I should be processing my first roll of film since the 1980's sometime Friday evening.

Try XTOl in the future. It's pretty good with just about all films. And by pretty good, I mean it's probably one of the best all around developers.

Tim.

Thanks!
I was thinking about either ordering some XTOL or Rodinal once I've gone through the stuff I just ordered. Kind of leaning toward trying HP5 and Tri-X with some Rodinal as really like what I've seen on the Flickr Development Recipe site.

Arista Premium Liquid Developer is Clayton F76+, which is very similar to DDX. You probably couldn't distinguish the negs developed in one from the other. I would use the Arista dev simply because it's more economical than DDX.

I've had great results with XTOL, too.

Thanks that's good to know 🙂
