I am having a one week trip sometime in March to Bielefeld, Germany. Does anyone here live close to Bielefeld by any chance? It would be fun to meet a fellow RFF member. I still have never met any RFF member in person.

Why do you presume that RFF exists? Because you post and you see responses?

Have you ever considered the possibility that all of this is just a ruse? That the site doesn't really exist at all, that there are no real members to meet.

In fact, does the internet really exist? Or, more tellingly, do you really exist?

Think about it. You've never met a RFF member in person.....

Hi Raid,

I'm not living too far away from Bielefeld. So if you like and I'm around, we can meet and have a beer or two 😛

Best regards

Now, that's interesting. According to wikipedia, there are rumors that even Bielefeld doesn't exist.

You, Athena, sound like a good AI program.

Hello Karl-Heinz,

I will pm you where my colleage and I will be staying in Bielefeld. There is a Statistics conference at Bielefeld University. I am looking forward to meeting you.

Hi, Raid!

You discovered a really interesting conspiracy here: "Bielefeld" - a town that does not really exist.

Well, ok, it does, but it is funny anyway. Actually, it might be the only funny thing about and in Bielefeld at all.

Bielefeld (and towns like Paderborn or Braunschweig) is said to be a boring town. Well, I don't know about that, but I know some people who live or used to live there and they are not boring at all!

So, it will be fun for you, if you're there with the right people.

If I wasn't living about 3 hours away, I would join you for a beer. But if you have to go to Giessen or Marburg one day, let me know... 😉

Kent: I know about the "boring" qualities of a city like Bielefeld, but I also know that Germany is not a large country by US standards, and that by car other places are accessible. We will fly into Frankfurt (Main) accordingly, so that we have to drive through other cities.
Where do you live?

What Bielefeld does have is a university with a reputation for very good sociology and statistics research.

We have an exchange program with Bielefeld University. There will be a very large gathering of statistics researchers this spring at Bielefeld. I am glad to find out that their research is strong in statistics.

Now Marburg is a nice town. I think it's even sort of on your way. Well, more so than Munich anyway 🙂

Enjoy the statistics...

Colin,

I have been to Marburg several years ago. They had a statistics conference with title "Marburger Tage". We had dinner in an underground room under the church. It was fun, with men drinking beer and singing together old songs.

Hi, Raid!

I live near Marburg.
If you fly to Frankfurt, you can easily pick a route that takes you via Marburg to Bielefeld. It all depends on how much time you have here.

So we could meet for a nice cup of coffee, before you travel on to Bielefeld.

Let me know, when you're going to be here and I try to get some time off.

There is an excellent café in Marburg, best coffee I ever had (and I've tried a lot).

Kent

Michael: Thanks. I will see how things will develop there.
I will pm you about the fixed travel dates.
