Hello,

I ordered Diafine from Huron Camera about a week ago (1 package, 4 gallons) and the package came in today. To my surprise, when I opened the parcel, there were two packages in there. I called the guy at Huron to ask about the second package and this is what he said: "Well, Happy Birthday then. You must be from oversees as we never sold Diafine to an American online". After I told him I was from Toronto, he replied "At least us Americans can do something nice for you Canadians. And,can you tell me why you can't buy it up there in the store?". This has really made my day and from now on I will be a faithful customer.

The curious thing is that the packages I received are different; one is white with orange and blue on it and Diaine written in white. The other package is yellow with Difine written in red. Anyone can shed some light on it? The design of the yellow package looks old, so I assume it must be an older batch.

And again, big cheer for the guys at Huron, I can highly recommend them. Also, I have to mention that I am in no way affiliated with them.

Diafine comes in two cans - it is a two-bath developer. I believe you are looking at can A and can B. I can't speak to the colors, being color-blind.

I got two packages with two cans in each, enough for 8 gallons. The cardboard packaging is different though.

I first got Diafine more than one year ago and Huron camera saved me as back then (not sure now) it was the only one without outrageous charges ($50) that places such as B&H and Adorama charge for overseas shipments.

Since then I've seen a lot of overseas people here and outside this forum getting their Diafine from them, and not even one wasn't happy with them, I guess that means something.

Ah, my bad. Then I guess you got two from before and after they redesigned their packaging. I've only got one box and have not yet used it. No idea what color it is, of course.

Best Regards,

8 gallons?

Er, no... if you got two individual boxes (with two small cans in each) you have two each ONE gallon kits.

However, each ONE gallon kit actually makes up into TWO one-gallon components, a gallon of Solution A and a gallon of Solution B.

So, if you mixed up the contents of both your boxes, you would have FOUR gallon jugs sitting in front of you. Two gallon jugs of Solution A and two gallon jugs of Solution B.

LOL. This is becoming funny. You are absolutely correct Tom, and that is what I meant to write, I hope ;)

Any idea why the packages are different?

No idea.

One does not say "Acufine" on it by any chance, does it? That is a different developer altogether. But it should have only one can inside.

As to both actually being Diafine and having different colors... it is a puzzle. The only guess I would make is that the Diafine box used to have a misprint on it regarding the proper dilutions. It was a mixed up combination of instructions for the quart kit and for the gallon kit. They stuck a sticker with he right dilutions on the box itself to cover the erroneous instructions.

If they corrected that mis-printed box series, they may have changed the box color scheme from that point on.

It wouldn't be that one package is for a quart of each solution, and the other is for a gallon of each? My quart kit is a white box with Diafine in white on orange. But I think the gallon kits look the same.

In any case, that's practically a lifetime supply!
