Digital Holga?

Hmmm .... I'm starting to see some basic similarities here!

So who is really making this camera? :angel:

If the lens comes off by only removing a few screws:
#1 I will have an exposed sensor
#2 mount microscope objectives on it an I will have a Full Frame M9 clone 😉
#3 mount the whole camera on the back of my view camera and I will have a $40,000. Hasselblad digital back for $100.00
#4 mount the camera on the back of my Mamiya 7II and I will have the first digital 7II
#5 put anything from pin hole disc's to a freakin wine glass in front of this thing and see what happens...
#6 if none of this works I will have had a lot of fun for $100.00 bucks
#7 It looks like this thing may not have a shutter and scans for the exposure, if that is true I can not imagine the crazy warped stuff that could happen.

At 100 bucks, why does it matter if it screws off, just take a hack saw to it, it's just as quick! Just remember when you reattach your new lens, don't tape it up all the way so you get some good holga light leak action!

The photos actually don't look too bad. It looks like it would be fun to play around with.

The "digital holga" nickname is pretty awful, though.

Actually, you may remember a year or so ago I showed a camera my father had hacked together back in the late 40s or early 50s. It was a cheap plastic 127 camera that he cut the lens off of and mounted to a 9x12 film holder. He then used that in a 9x12 camera. It was realy good for good color shots on the cheap.

This camera has similar possibilities. I say go for it.

oftheherd, the wine glass may be a bit to classy, sort of snooty, snobbish like. so maybe just a coke bottle or better yet a bEER bottle, I like the idea already. 😉
Its such a small camera that I might just duck tape it to the back of a Leica for a poor mans M9 and just watch all the Leica purists go craZy...

Being from tExas only a Lone Star beer would be appropriate but to bug the Leica-files I could try out a good German beer, maybe a Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier, or a fine Franziskaner, i just might settle on a Lowenbrau because the girls in their ads are beautiful. Finding the perfect Leica without offending the masses will be tricky, the old-school Leicas are just to beautiful to deface...hummmm, maybe a M7 or a MP just to get the aficionados blood boiling... can't wait, soon my own digital Leica for a $100.00 investment.

I don't think Leica files would be bothered by beer. The hard-drive would. Not to mention all the other electronics.

There are so many digital cameras on ebay for $100 or less... does this have a special look to the photos to earn its "digital holga" nickname? or is it just a cheap digital with no charm?

We'd be lucky if the photos taken from it look Holga-like, but I think Cnet saying that the styling looks like a Holga is what started the whole digital Holga buzz.

Just have to wait and see I guess!

Don’t care if it is Holga-Like or not, the most intriguing thing is the “NO SHUTTER” it scans to capture an image. I will not get into the experimentation this thing/toy could lend itself to. BUT if it can produce the “Lartigue Effect” (look it up) I will be one happy-nut for a $100.00 investment of fun…not to mention if the lens comes off exposing the sensor what a blast this could be…
Experimentation with this M9 Leica copy could lead to some very creative approaches to image capture, some can not see this and should be happy with taking straight up Flower Photos forever.

Just preordered one. Don't pay attention to nay-sayers. It's damn cheap and I also see possibility to modify (not screwing off the LENS but LENSBOARD). It's a TOY!!!

And yes - LARTIGUE EFFECT. Come on now, que the comments "you can also do it in photoshop". Some people sound exactly like people who question the reasoning behind shooting rangefinders or film. Whatever.

Actually, I might even order a second one, just so i can experiment more with modifying it.

I ordered one of these to use as a "always have" camera. I am intrigued by some of the modification possibilities. I added my thoughts on the first thread on this Flickr group.http://www.flickr.com/groups/1251724@N21/

If some RFF "machinist" could act quick enough, there are possible opportunities. I like my "quick change" lens board idea the best, as it covers all the others.

Since I gave my Grandson my GRD, I feel lost without some type of camera with me all the time. This will satisfy the "documentation" function for me.

its basically a cheap scan back, like a small copy machine. not quite the same as having a big FP shutter as in the "Lartigue Effect" (never heard it called that, but I know the reference). There are tons of toy digis out there, just go to walmart and look around. those toy makers just haven't realized yet that if they call their thing a holga the hipsters will jump all over it. Looks like a good thing to f#ck with, though.

spec sheet. It will meet my always available needs, but slowest "shutter" speed is listed at 1/2 second so that lets pinhole out it seems.

After finally engaging my brain I realize that there are not many lenses available for a sensor this small. I got carried away with the apparent ease of sensor access.

I do think there will be some interesting modifications made to this camera though.

About a 99 other things "Make it Special" but you must have an open/creative approach from the beginning, most do not and to them I say Flower pictures forever 😉
It is basically a toy when compared to the almighty Leica but toys are made to have fun...
so I will have my fun and the M9 posse will worry about high iso noise till the end...
