Is there any big "lookouts" to watch for when removing the lens?
No, and it's really not a lens; the camera shoots the same shots without it -- it's just a plastic tube with a plastic clear "lens element". When you put it back together just make sure that it catches the plastic switch which controls the "macro" mode.

It looks like the vignetting mod added some optical problems as well, making the thing even more Holga-esque than I expected.

I kinda ignored this thread until I realized that it was the camera I played with at the store this weekend for about 2 minutes. Y6000 = $65 and light as a feather. Kinda shocked it has the name Yashica on it.

Ted Dillard got there before yashica with a true digital holga, too bad the digital part cost perhaps a thousand times what the holga cost;
