diopter available for cl?

Does anyone know if there are diopters available for CL's in the ~ -2 range?

Leica or Minolta may have made some years ago, but I have never seen one. You might try sending an email to Leica and see what they say.

Leica did make diopters for the CL but they are no longer available new. They rarely come up for sale as well, I have only ever seen 2 in my life. The chances of then getting a specific diopter makes it even more out of reach. Sorry!

thanks very much for this info.

Just did some research, and it appears I may need a positive diopter. I never worried about these unless the cameras or camcorders I had, already had them on them, then I would set to an extreme.

But my DV for my OD is ~ -1.xx (r eye is slightly near sighted for distance), not really requiring glasses, though they can help (NV is fine, no correction).

So looking things up, it appears I need and have been tweaking my eyepieces that have it (more recently Pentax *ist) in the plus most position (+1.5 works great on the Pentax).

So cameras themselves have negative diopters, Nikon SLR's usually neg. 1.0, and M cameras - 0.5 for perfect eyesight, this is assuming I believe eye focus at ~ 1M for SLR's, and nearest focusing distance for RF's.

So it appears I could probably use a +1.0 or +1.5 diopter to correct for my myopia. It's interesting that the eye tests, test for near and far (NV and DV) which I guess correlates to reading and driving, but not necessarily in-between the 1-2m range.

Joe, if you wear glasses to read close, or to see things near, you may benefit from a negative diopter though some negative is built into your M's and SLR's by default.

If you can read and see fine close without, but need glasses to see clearly in the distance, you might benefit from a positive diopter.

If you have astigmatism (rotated eye errors), it is best to wear glasses, to my knowledge, there are no diopters that can correct for astigmatism.

I think you may have your positive and negative discription backwards. I am near-sighted and my prescriptions are negative diopters for distant vision. When you get old have problems reading close up, you use a positive diopter lens, which is a magnifying glass.

Hi Joe

Hi Joe

If you wear your glasses while photographing, I think you're all set if you can see clearly.

The eyepiece diopters I'm talking about are for minor adjustment when not wearing eyeglasses or contacts.

I also have neg rx for distant vision, but while aging, still do not need close up glasses or aids, or reading glasses, yet I find cranking up the built-in diopters to a positive value (e.g. above the neg. dioption built in) and into the positive territory, help me see a little clearer.

update on cl diopter

update on cl diopter

Ended up trying the -1.0 DAG had (thanks!), and it works very well, snaps right in and greatly allows clearer viewing, even though a -1.5 might be an even closer match if they made -1.5's. -2.0 would probably be too much for me.

Do M6's have diopters built-in or are they readily available in -1.0 or -1.5?
