Hi all

I have pretty much everything I need to dismantle my M2 top.

How do I open and pull out the flash sockets?

The covers are easily opened by the adequate wrench. But how about the post itself?

I do need to pull it out before pulling up the cover, right?

Thanks!

I think I have the M2/3 basic repair manual. PM me with your email and I'll send you a copy.

SOmewehre I also had a manual made for (I think?) the US army, which looked great, but has gone missing, would be interested if anyone else here has it.

Depending on the camera, the 'posts' (i.e., the center electrical connection) are sometimes permanently attached, sometimes not. If you have removed the double threaded piece and the sync ring (one thread is for mounting into the camera, the other thread is for the sync ring) and the posts are still there, then your camera has the permanent post.

Assuming all the other appropriate parts (rewind knob, wind lever, shutter dial, accessory shoe, etc.) have been removed, you should be able to take off the top plate.

Here are photos.

First photo shows the flash sync with the removable electrical contact, the double threaded insert, and the sync ring:

Second photo shows the style with the permanent 'post', with the double threaded insert removed from the camera (sync ring still attached.)

Excellent, thanks for all the answers and thanks for the pictures, Robert!
BTW, that means that I may need another flexiclamp or something equivalent for the post itself , right?
