Do You Buy Things After A Drink or Two That You Wouldn't When Sober?

I know a guy who bought a camper on the "auction site" after an evening of heavy drinking. The item was over 100 miles away and special arrangements had to be made for transport. The seller was one happy (former) camper! :)

I've noticed an inverse proportion to the number of drinks and the speed of the lens purchased.

For example, it took me only 2 beers to win the bid on an Elmar, but I needed 4 beers to pull the trigger on a Summicron. Then one night after bar-hopping for 6 hours, I staggered home and bought myself a Summilux.

I'm embarrassed to say how much I had to drink to buy the Noctilux

I bought a subscription to Photo.net after only one drink. I think it was only one.

This is giving me an idea. I have some vodka here, and I've been wanting a Nikon FM3a . . .

If I get enough to drink to order the latest Leica wonder lens or camera hopefully I won't be able to read/remember my credit card number.

I enjoy drinking and drink as much as I like and as often as I like. However, I also don't enjoy drinking too much or too often. On the other hand, I hate shopping, including buying photo equipment. The last thing I'd do after a drink or two is buy ANYTHING.

I don't think so; I have hit the Buy button (impulsively?) late at night after getting tired of re-reading equipment reviews. But I don't think that half-glass of wine at dinner, or the little splash of peppermint schnapps had much effect.

I have quit buying gear, though! For a while there I was acting like a collector, but I haven't bought anything for 2 years. Wups, except that used Leica wide-angle last fall!

Really? You escaped the February meetup without buying anything? I was borderline broke and still bought a box of stuff! (probably due in-part to the Maker's Mark in my glass and the contents of the box of course.)

Phil Forrest

Yeah Phil, I did. Remember I was under the weather though. Also, not into film these days, so nobody had any digitals for sale. I'm pretty satisfied with what I own right now.

I can't drink alcohol worth a dime.
Just slightly over some moderate amount and my face turned red and I have chest discomfort.

But I like to try wine, beer, sake, whatever -- just can't drink enough to go tipsy.

Reading about gears (needs clarity in thinking!) caused far more buys for me than drinks would ever do. :D
