I use kiev for affordable sonnar optics, and oly 35sp for bright viewfinder, spot metering and overall easy of use. Have electro 35 as well but it lost its case to oly 35sp.
wintoid: cameras are addictive beasts, but olys somehow most addictive of a bunch. Addiction is combination of good user properties and affordable price. Btw if you into zone system the most intuitive "real" camera with regard to exposure would be OM4(t) - in manual exposure you just spot meter shadows and highlights and you immediatelly see contrast range, and can place your exposure wherever from scene black point to scene white point, with all possibilities in between. Oly 35sp (as any camera with spot meter) allows the same with just a little more hassle.

Hi Igor,

Not to sidetrack the thread, but just to say that I have an OM4 but really don't get on with it, despite what everyone says about how RF-like they are. The 35SP is another matter, and I love it to bits. Quite tempted to sell a lot of stuff and get a black 35SP (hey it might as well look lovely as well as being lovely and addictive to use).
 
yes I understand what you mean 🙂 it's mystical relationship of photog with his preferred camera (everyone has at least one) - without any visible connection to features, logic or whatever, it just works well together. Pick up another camera, maybe miles ahead in terms of features or even image quality, and it stops working, your pictures become dull, boring snapshots.
 
Some of both. My most-used RF is the fixed-lens Olympus XA I carry in a pouch on my belt. Funny, I usually stick with 50mm on interchangeable lens RF's so I mostly use 'em as fixed-lens models, with only occasional lens changes. And my Bessa L is dedicated to hosting a CV 21/4.

Oly XA is my most used fixed-lens RF, followed by the Canonet GIII QL17. I do have a ton of other fixed lens RFs, all with faster than f2 lenses and cheaper than anything I could get for my LTM or Kiev mount systems.

It's hard to beat the Bessa R for the VF and Kiev + J9 for sniper-like shots.
 
The only thing that stops me from using my Canonet more is focusing. The VFs on the Leicas are very clear but the Canonet can be difficult to focus sometimes.
 
I have both.
Fixed users - XA,GSN,lynx 5000e
interchangeable - Bessa R with J8,J3 and CV 35mm

The XA goes with me to work and back.
When I go out shooting it's usually the Bessa R, unless I want to do some quick people shooting on the street, then I grab the GSN.

Though the fixed lens camera I use most isn't quite a RF; I have been using the Retina 1a more than either of the true RF fixed lens cameras I have.
But I am running a roll of film through the Lynx 1000 I've had for a while and not used before--if that one works as well as it seems to, it'll be put into the mix.

I use both types

For 35mm: interchangeable RF's; Lecia M's and Xpan 1 and TX-2
For 120: fixed lens RF's; Plaubel Makina 670 and Fuji GW690 III

I did use interchangeable 120 RF's; Mamiya 6 and 7 series and Fujica BL G690 and the Horseman VF 690 but over time i found them too bulky for constant travel and airline restrictions.
 
I'm in the fixed lens RF camp. First off, I went through the "must have every focal lenth under the sun" fetish with my SLRs, and still have most of those lenses: 19mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm. Then it dawned on me, I like 50's most. So I use the GSN and the Lynx 14e IC primarily because they have a narrower FOV than most others. Next I like a semi-wide compact. So the Yashica Electro CC (35/1.8) and the Konica Auto S3 (38/1.8) get good use.

Interchangeable lenses I use an SLR because "it's there". The SLR almost always has the Jupiter 9 attached, used for portraits.

For most general photography, street photography, I prefer the advantages of a fixed lens rangefinder: cost/value, excellent "no frills" fast sharp optics (sans the expense of the "designer" interchangeables), fill flash capability (which I indeed use), quite leaf shutters, uncomplicated framelines that always match the focal length with many being parallax corrected. I like the convenience of a built in meter on the 135's (I'll meter the Iskra and my MFs, always) no worries about theft or drops, durability, and (frankly) 95% of the quality of pricier "designer" i-lens models.

Now I'll get space-y. On a fixed lenser's the lens and the camera are "one" and work in harmony with each other.

I shoot 35 for convenience, MF for optimal quality.
 
I said I had no fixed lens in the vote, I lied. I have a Zeiss Nettar 6x9 Vf with an add on RF. It is a very nice camera. I like the way it folds up and can go in a shirt pocket or a vest pocket. I also have som 6x6 and 6x7 as well as the Kodak retinas ( VF). I have about 3 127 film size, a Kiko, a Korelle, and a Zeiss Baby. All told I have 24 fixed lens cameras, all VF except for the Kodak Retinette. Of course I can use the rangefinder on any camera with a shoe or just hand hold it if I want. I have about 12 interchangable lens RF, mostly Fed, Zorki and a couple of Argus C3s. I have an EXA, a Kiev 88, and a Canon F1 in SLR, not to mention the EOS 300D. I have a zorki 2C black body which I would love if it wasn't so hard to load.Why is it that I used Leicas years ago and had no problems? I guess I turned into a clutz? The baby Ikonta is a nice camera also but needs shutter cleaning. I'm looking forward to getting that running, I can hide it up my sleeve, like a derringer. 😛

Both types for me.
My everyday camera is the YE35 or the Mamiya SD while on vacation both the Contax and Kiev plus some other cameras (RF fixed lens or SLR) find it´s place.

I got to admit that I forgot almost completely the SLRs...

The months of March/April has been a restocking kind of think for me after I sold most of my Bessa R2 kit.

I bought a Zorki 1e in March, and in April, I won a Canon QL17 (With 45mm F/1.7 -- Ver 1) today on the "Bay for $44.00...Caims to be "Cleaned and working"
 
I had a huge fixed RF camera. Strange to think of it as a RF, it was a 6X9 speed graphic. I don't think that would be a good one for low light. I didn't know you could get different lenses for it so it never entered my mind. I loved that clunker, even carried it to the top of the Washington Monument and then back down, walking both ways. I got some wonderful shots from up there. wish I could do that again.
I wish I could walk it without the camera!!

Fixed only.

So far I only have fixed-lens RF. The XA and 35 ECR are my favorite pocketable RF's. The Rollei 35 S, Oly Pen D2, and Oly 35 Trip are not far behind though.

I have a Canonet, but it pales in comparison with the Oly 35 SPn. Recently acquired a black 35 SP (no, I didn't pay 300 bucks for it 🙂 )

PS: Say, why can't we incorporate remote images anymore? I usually see the image link icon, but it has been removed.
