Does anyone ALWAYS has a camera with them?

97% of the time, yes. Either the M5 with 35/2.8 or 50/2, VT Deluxe with 35/2 or 50/1.4 , a Nikonos with 35/2 and lens hood if it's raining, F1N or 1VHS or DSLR with a range of lenses.
But I found that having them in my car is not nearly the same as having one on my person. If I have camera in hand I'm actively looking for a shot as opposed to having one in my vehicle where the shot needs to find me in order to get it. If I go for a walk through the woods it's always with camera in hand, usually SLR, hence a lot of photos of mushrooms and headstones. If around people, typically it's a rangefinder.

When I started reading photo magazines like Amateur Photographer, some 35 years ago, the advice was to always carry a camera. That way you were always prepared for the unexpected photo opportunity and I have pretty much carried a compact p&s with me daily ever since. Currently carry a GRD III for pocketability but also sometimes a G11.

Pretty much. My XA or D-Lux 3 is in my purse and when I go for a walk or know I'll be someplace interesting, I sling on one of my Leica rangefinders.

I used to haul around a camera everytime I left the house. y'know, just in case. And it seemed every time I left the camera at home, something interesting would happen.

Now I carry a camera everwhere so that nothing interesting happens.

I always carry my HTC Desire mobile phone. The built in camera is surprisingly good. It's useful for those opportunistic shots. I know it will never replace a true camera but at least it's there when I need it.

No. Almost every excursion involves driving. If something interesting does pop up, odds are it will be impossible to pull over and stop. So, almost all of my photographic forays are planned and intentional.

I suspect there is a correspondence between those who usually carry a camera and those who shoot street and live in dense urban areas. If nothing else, they're able to walk or bike to where they need to go, not drive for 20 minutes.

I have found that I do better participating in and enjoying all of the fine nuances that life brings rather than trying to photograph them. While I most often have a camera in the car, there are many times I do not bring it out.

Overall, I believe my photographs benefit from my approach. Of course, YMMV.

I won't always have on on me. If I got to the supermarket to buy milk I won't bring one with me. Sometimes when I meet up with people, having a camera is not the right 'vibe' you know. 🙂

But I say 80% of the time I spend outside the house I have a camera with me. As for which one, usually the one which I want to finish the roll of film in first. Size doesn't bother me, I don't own any cameras that I don't feel comfortable carrying everywhere anyway.

I carry an M6 with a Cron, strapped laterally across my body, so the camera rests right under my arm. Take it 95% of the time.

95% of the time I have a camera with me. Most of the time a RF like my Canonet. Sometimes a SLR like my AE1-P. Mostly the one that has film in it at the moment.
