And it is not candid. Just as in my recent comment, posting two examples in street portraits I'm not talking about candids. But posed photos. Even taken and retaken as portrait.

Looking at Disfarmer photos the subjects are uniformly dour. Like the Arnolfini Portrait but without the symbolic accoutrement.

I was watching documentary about him back then.
He would keep people in front of the camera until they would become themselves or starting to act. I like both outcomes.

Love the Dali one. Also there's Philippe Halsman who took portraits of his subjects jumping. An anti-portrait in a sense.

There are some people for whom "gob stoppers" JUST.......DON'T......WORK!
