Does m6 work without batteries?

I'd love to know if everything works in an M6 without batteries except the meter. I seem to remember only 1/60th works? Thanks for answering my trivial question....

Everything thing works except the meter. Actually the batteries are there for the meter and nothing else.

I think you are confused with the M7 and its electronic shutter. For this camera only 2 speeds (I think 1/60 and 1/125) will work when the batteries are removed.

Is there an issue with flash sync or something like that with the M6TTL (not the M6 classic)? Never owned one, but have a vague memory of reading something like that (???).

That's right. TTL flash control can not work without batteries, it needs
a thyristor. But the M6 ("classic") flash trigger is mechanical.
