Does the digital Ms feel like the film ones?

I pimped out my Wetzlar M6 with a TA Rapidgrip and TA Rapidwinder to add weight and better balance because I shoot with a 75 Lux and now more recently with a heavy chrome version of the 50 Lux ASPH. To me the added weight helps steady the camera for low light. Also know that I have grown use to heavy cameras and grips due to extensive shooting of Nikon F3's with motordrives.
The digital M's are very comfotable, but I will add a grip when my MM gets delivered. I like the added thickness and the added weight especially with big heavy lenses. A Noctilux F 0.95 feels like a bowling ball on a M9, and I love that solidness.

Anybody willing to venture whether the extra thickness is due to the LCD in the back or the sensor to lens distance that would make full-frame work as well?
I'm for one waiting for a digital M with no LCD, rather it sends a preview file to my phone, so I can review the images later without the temptation to chimp on the spot. And if this can make the size of the M body back to its original, based on the responds in this thread, it'll make a lot of people happy also.

It's probably both the thickness of the LCD and the sensor that adds up to the extra bulk. I doubt it's the actual distance that would be different, I can't see how that would work, I would imagine sensor and film distance is the same.

Lens Mount registration has to be the same as all other Leicas.
The sensor assembly behind the image plane is much deeper than film and pressure plate. Never mind the other supporting electronics, power system, battery, etc.
The LCD adds a couple of mm at most.

commented on: my M8 & M9-P were heavier and bigger than my M6: what a disappointment.
I had flashbacks of when the DigiLux 1 and 2 came out: I was expecting a smaller/lighter package,but no dice.
However, the MAIN difference in "feel" was the shutter sound, or the "shudder sound" I should say
of the M8/M9/ "WHIZZZ, CLANG, CLUMP!!". Horrendous compared to any film M.

No, they are thinker and feel more bulky in your hands and bag.
Also they feel heavier...

The M-E at the store sounded identical to my M9.
The shutter rcock,is the only thing that separates its noise level from my M4-2 ... Fit the M4-2 winder and there's no difference, although the sound has a different timbre.

Don't confuse weight with the quality of construction. I've used every model film M except the M5 and still own a M2 and MP plus M9. As mentioned the film bodies feel much better to me than the M9. Not only is the digital thicker and heavier i don't care as much for the covering as I do the vulcanite on the film bodies. To me it's harder to grip.
I like my M9 but would never give up my Nikon D800 for am M9. Leica glass excells wide open but the D800 and IMO many other current DSLRs are in a different class when it comes to image files.
As to sound / noise of the M9 I don't find it annoying at all and I use it in very quiet environments where potentially it could annoy people but it doesn't. It's just a different sound but I don't find it to be anywhere close to loud ar annoying. I think the sound has been seriously over exaggerated like size and weight of certain lenses.
Personally I'd rather Leica build the body out of titanium or carbon fiber and save some weight. Weight doesn't equate to quality.
