A hood?
The front element is well recessed from the filter thread, so I'm curious if a hood is a necessity for this lens.
I ask because, well...I don't have a hood.

If you put a UV filter on the front then it most certainly needs one. The biggest problem is that the hood, because the front lens element is a little recessed from the filter thread, is that it doesn't offer that much flare protection when used with a filter. If you don't use a filter the hood gives very good protection against flare. I used to use a filter but now don't because it caused too many reflections because it's too far away from the front element. I now have the hood attached 100% of the time and it offers a good amount of protection to knocks and sun.

Thanks guys, you've both helped. DN, I grabbed the rubber hood from my Mamiya 645 80mm. And TJV, I was actually thinking yesterday on exactly what you're talking about. I was eyeing the lens with a UV filter threaded and I thought to myself, do the reflections off this glass really not affect the picture?
Great tips guys, thanks...
