Does the X100S make the X100 obsolete?

it depends if you can live with the cons of the x100. if you dont need speed then the x100 is still a great camera. i wouldnt spend more than $500-$600 on one though.

I'm going to have to say, of course it did. The X100 has some well-documented shortcomings and the X100s improves on almost all of them.

Does that mean that if the X100 worked for you then it is no longer up to the task? Of course not. Photography is not like auto-racing or something like that where the latest gear is a prerequisite to entry. If I can take pictures that I enjoy with a 35mm OM-2SP and manual focus, then it's perfect for me. Is my OM obsolete? Absolutely, but that is part of why I like it.

Yep, the latest and greatest. I can't wait for the X100s-1ab2c3d. Now that'll blow everything out of the water. 😀 😀 😀 Did the M7 make the M3 obsolete??

Sorry crew, couldn't restrain my sarcasm 🙂

Just about the only thing that the x100 will do better will be totally silent shutter operations.

I think all the other things will be improved or new to the 100s.

There are situations where the silent shutter has been the only way I could get shots, so I may just wind up owning both (shameful but true).

I'm behind in the news of this camera. Is the shutter loud(er) in the new version ?

Mirriam-Webster:

Definition of OBSOLETE

a : no longer in use or no longer useful <an obsolete word>
b : of a kind or style no longer current : old-fashioned <an obsolete technology>

So, I'd say the answer is no. It's certainly still in use and useful, and it's not a 'style.'

🙂

No, certainly not. I still like and use my Powershot G12 after the G1X came out. X100 is an excellent camera - remember the excitement it caused even before it hit the market?
Just go and check some of the test shots found all over the net - they are (as you probably know) just great!

Plus 1

A lot depends on individual needs more this anything else... For me I don't c the need to upgrade, until my x100 finally gives up the ghost. For the type of pictures I take w/ it and the size of my prints, it is just fine.

If I were buying this camera for the first time, I would go for the new one though.. Mainly because the sensor would now match up w/ my xp1 and since it is newer less an issue for end of life parts.
