It sucks big time. I had to work with the M8 today and it was weird figuring out focal lengths again.
And then when I had to edit I had to deal with the magenta cast all over again.
United Kingdom sold gear only. And just one year nowadays. I have the last two year M9 I guess....I thought passport thing was international. how come it doesn't apply in USA?
To everyone here that has insurance: Can you comment on how much it is? I am not a home owner so I couldnt put it on my house insurance, but i would like to have it. Any suggestions?
Similar damage to my M8 three years ago was 1900 EURO.So I dropped my M9 today. I put it in my camera bag and ran and it fell out of my bag about 3ft onto concrete and rolled about 4 feet.
I picked it up and the top plate was loose. You could peek inside and see the innards. Shutter wouldn't fire. But the rear red light came on. And the viewfinder display read Sd. Which means it couldn't detect the SD card. Rear LCD didn't turn on, but it was damaged. All the viewfinder glass was fine. Not scratched. But the body had a deep scar and a dent in it. And you could see the metal inside had cracked where the top plate attached to the body.
I sent it out to Leica NJ via fedex. But missed the last sendout by about 10 minutes. So It'll be shipped tomorrow and arrive Friday.
Anyone have any experience with getting a digital M back from Leica after damage? Is there hope to fix it or will I have to buy a brand new one? Hopefully Leica doesn't charge me a fortune to repair it if that's at all possible. I feel completely useless without it. And like a giant idiot for not making sure it was completely in my bag. In retrospect, for the 20 feet I ran to get out of the way of something, I could have just carried it in my hand.
I just want my Leica back safe and sound and in tip top shape with a brand new top plate and perhaps a new CCD since mine had about a dozen stuck pixels anyway. And preferably less than $1500 for the repair. Which is half my saving and about the most I can afford.
Woe is me. I feel as if I've died inside.
