Each regional/country Leica distributor administered their own Passport program. (Eg the UK Passport was always 2 years, the USA's 3 years). The only reason I can think of that Leica-USA doesn't offer it on the M9 is because they didn't offer it on the M8 and we all still went ahead and bought them anyway.
It sucks big time. I had to work with the M8 today and it was weird figuring out focal lengths again.
Figuring out? Just choose one focal length wider. That's the beauty of the 1.33x crop (vs a 1.5 or 1.6).
And then when I had to edit I had to deal with the magenta cast all over again.
You kept the M8...didn't you keep the IR filters?

I am not sure about homeowners, but in the US a pro policy (covers anything you can imagine) can be had reasonably ($500-700) - call Tom Pickard Insurance - http://www.tcpinsurance.com/photographer.html

I think every photographer has a place in his or her brain that permanently registers very expensive falling objects. I vividly remember my 20/4 Nikkor flying out of my shoulder bag and skittering across a stretch of asphalt pavement as I ran to keep up with some news event many years ago. Fortunately, I had a filter and butt cap and metal lens hood on the lens at the time, and it survived more or less unscathed. But I changed how I packed the bag!

Similar damage to my M8 three years ago was 1900 EURO.So I dropped my M9 today. I put it in my camera bag and ran and it fell out of my bag about 3ft onto concrete and rolled about 4 feet.
I picked it up and the top plate was loose. You could peek inside and see the innards. Shutter wouldn't fire. But the rear red light came on. And the viewfinder display read Sd. Which means it couldn't detect the SD card. Rear LCD didn't turn on, but it was damaged. All the viewfinder glass was fine. Not scratched. But the body had a deep scar and a dent in it. And you could see the metal inside had cracked where the top plate attached to the body.
I sent it out to Leica NJ via fedex. But missed the last sendout by about 10 minutes. So It'll be shipped tomorrow and arrive Friday.
Anyone have any experience with getting a digital M back from Leica after damage? Is there hope to fix it or will I have to buy a brand new one? Hopefully Leica doesn't charge me a fortune to repair it if that's at all possible. I feel completely useless without it. And like a giant idiot for not making sure it was completely in my bag. In retrospect, for the 20 feet I ran to get out of the way of something, I could have just carried it in my hand.
I just want my Leica back safe and sound and in tip top shape with a brand new top plate and perhaps a new CCD since mine had about a dozen stuck pixels anyway. And preferably less than $1500 for the repair. Which is half my saving and about the most I can afford.
Woe is me. I feel as if I've died inside.

I died a little inside just reading this... A year ago i had my 70-200 2.8 hit the pavement after bouncing from a staircase, the lens was a goner and so was a piece of me...

My homeowner's insurance, State Farm Insurance, requires a professional policy if I sell any end product...ie one photograph, or charge for services associated with photography.
The good news is that it will be returned to you as good as new. You can't say the same for your body should you not have moved fast to get out of the way of whatever was coming your way.
We all know that sinking feeling. Sorry to hear about the above.

My pro insurance cost about 40 pounds a month $60 or so and is worth every penny if you take into account some of the stuff that comes flying my way. My personal insurance cost enough to make an elephant weep.
