DP2M on the way.

It'll be fun to see how many people end up hating this camera. 😉 I love mine at times, but on some other days, I just can't get on with it. I keep it though knowing that some days are just DP2m days (even if most aren't).

I think I've hated nearly all my cameras at various times ... usually when they let me down and take crap photos! 😀

Keith, have you considered extra batteries and some from available grips? I know, there are two kinds of people - one like grips and others don't. But I find combination of boxy shape and metallic surface too prone to slipping....but I'm basing my thoughts on original DP, probably M's are better in this regard.

That said, my expensive Franiec grip is on way to me. I say expensive only because I bought DP1 used but for brand new $800 camera $35 is a piece of cake.

I have one of the big arca-plate grips, and while I like it if I'm in a more serious workmode, for everyday shooting, I prefer a couple of strips of camera tape.

Yes...I wish I have learned about them before I purchased grip...but some grippy strips I've seen cost about $15 for s small set which is useful only partially (some pieces were too small or of shape I couldn't put into use). Probably I've found most expensive strips, so I would end up thinking I stopped halfway to real grip. Yes, this is upselling business.

Nah, just pick up some plain, old camera/gaff tape, 1inch. It's like 20 bucks for more tape than you will ever use (unless you are a filmmaker). Leaves no residue, is pretty much reusable (even after months). I use it to black out my cameras. I also use white cam/gaff tape to write personal information on my camera bags. It never falls off.

I put two strips overlapping where my fingers grip, and then a square on the back where my thumb grips.

Excuse the noisy pic from my M8, my DP2m is wearing a Really Right Stuff tripod base and a grip screwed into it which was made by a friend of mine out of oak. The 75mm VF is my "portrait lens" as I have trouble visualising the crop on the lcd screen and the resolution is good enough to crop out later 😉

Re the cheap grip on ebay. I had one on my DP1s and it was exactly the same in function as the Franiac grip but goesn't feel as good to use because it's plastic and the Franiac grip is alloy. The Franiac grip is cool to the touch which feels good and the plastic one feels warm and doesn't feel as good to hold...

Thank you for endorsement. Obviously I'm lagging behind in adhesive tape department. Probably issue is with local suppliers, but I haven't explored specialty shops, only regular household and building material store and they don't have such tapes. I have to look around, also online.

I did see this on ebay. How is the quality of plastic? I were tempted but decided plastic knock-off of Franiec grip should cost less that it does so I opted for original.
Btw plastic (right one, not expelling fumes) could be better than alloy because latter will make fingers cold in cold weather while plastic acts as thermal insulator. Thumb still is touching bare body so temp split hit can accur 🙂 But I agree it's real contender.

I must admit ... I don't have a problem with plastic!

And as nicely engineered as that Milich thing is it makes it into a bit of a frankencamera IMO. 😀

Oh and did I mention ... B&H told me that if I can wind the troops up here at RFF and get them buying those discounted DP2Ms there may be a little something in the mail for me!

Just joshin' ..... 😀

Check out Clas Ohlson store. That is where I buy gaffer tape and all other tapes and also camera batteries etc. I need.

keith - Get one of these cases - not real leather but extremely well made. Use it as a half- case and you have a nice built-in grip and protection. I also put a Gordy's wrist strap on.

I also bought 3 extra batteries - you'll need them.

Despite thinking that there will be no surprises when you get the camera after reading all the reviews - you will be stunned by the resolution.

Enjoy! Enjoy!

It's probably a long shot but does anyone have an image from a DPM at ISO 800 or 1600 they could post .... preferably without any noise reduction applied. It's obviously going to be a few days or more before I get my hands on the little Sigma and I'm curious to see just how the noise looks at these ISO settings?

The quality of the plastic is ok, it's not up to the standard of one of the camera makers, but it's fine. The tape that attaches it to the camera is the same scotchtape as on the Franiac grip IIRC.

With the RRS vertical bracket attached and the metal grip they do, my DPM would definitely have looked like a Frankencamera, so I only bought the base. I prefer the naked look of the camera, but I dented my dp2s from it swinging into stuff when it was hanging on the strap. With the RRS base it's going to be doing the denting and the camera will be safe 😉
