DxO versions and upgrades pricing?

Hello RFF,

I am ready to pull the trigger on DxO software for my OSX platform, I want it to be my main photo editing software for both digital and film images for several years due to its ease of use, its capabilities and excellent output results.

But, I am trying to establish what the costs of future upgrades will be and it will not let me in on the secret unless I create an account with DxO, which in turn I can only do when I purchase! Why the secrecy? I don't know. A mild trust issue is creeping up on me...


Anyone that can give me at least guideline prices of upgrades from the recent past? What percentage of new price am I looking at, and are there annual or bi-annual upgrades or what? And do these guys take PayPal for a payment, or just credit card?

Just trying to make a well-informed decision here, not trying to invoke a discussion on pricing strategies, no need for a comparison to Ahole Lightroom either... 😉

I had to purchase at (I think) full price to upgrade to Photolab 2. I think that earlier versions of DxO were upgradable at a discount or maybe for free. I am no expert with it, but I use DxO primarily as a raw developer for digital and then edit further in Photoshop. Maybe if I played with DxO more, I could do the same things that I do with Photoshop (e.g. masking and layers). The DxO library of lens corrections rocks. I just start with Photoshop for scanned film and have never used it for film.

I think it cost me $89 to upgrade from the earlier version of the software. Great software, but a little slow on support with new raw formats. The EOS Rp just came out and they are saying June before its raw is supported. Would still recommend the software, though. (ACR can be slow to update, too, so that seems to be typical).

I like DXO too, but it doesn't support Monochrom cameras, so I can't 🙁

Pulled the trigger, for the Essential version without any add-on packs.

I'll get the Elite Film Pack later, when I can afford it. Too bad about the discount now but the two of them was just too much.

A little late to the thread but I think the upgrade policy depends upon purchase date. When I bought a DXO One (Sept) it came with licenses for DXO Film Pack and for DXO Optics Pro which I registered on the DXO site. In November, PhotoLab 2 came out and my software auto updated itself.

PL2 is really nice software. Somewhat limited in what cameras it supports but it can do a lot. The PRIME noise reduction is extremely effective and the Smart Lighting and Clearview tools are very useful. Having the local corrections from NIK built right into it is great.

FilmPack is probably the best of the emulations I have used and it is integrated directly if licensed. For a wide angle shooter Viewpoint is worth a look too as it does geometry correction but also can correct for wide angle perspective distortions too.
