eBay seems to be cutting Paypal out of the selling process. They now require sellers to provide their bank and social security info directly to eBay, similar to the way it is with Paypal.

So, OK, if that's what they want (I guess). But when I tried to register, it wouldn't take my bank info. The same info as Iv'e been using for years, and I know it's right.

Not only that, but they set a deadline, and they threaten to not let us list any items after the deadline, which is today. Seems like corporate suicide.

Has any one else had this problem?

Is anyone else bothering to register?

Has anyone had success?

Is it even a good idea to register for the change?

It comes through on my eBay messages, and as reminders when entering new listings.

I'll see what happens tomorrow. If it won't let me in, then it's for real.

Crappy shipment service, no human involved service and now switching to ****ty payment system which is known to be trouble source with über.

All PayPal is needed to do is to create their own market place. Even FB dude figured out how to do it.

I had the same experience. I tried multiple times, on two occasions separated by a week. No luck.

Not sure what the options are at this point.

I just checked a random listing on ebay.com and the payment options were Paypal and various credit cards.

I just listed something today, same as ever. Have not received any message from them, but they have been rolling out some changes, initially outlined a couple of years ago, which started happening last summer, I think. As outlined here:
https://www.investmentwatchblog.com/ebay-will-no-longer-using-paypal-for-transactions/

I also sold two lenses this last week, the latest one yesterday, and it was still a Paypal payment to me, at least for now.

If they start offering buyers protection for bank transactions, then I'm all for it. Right now one of the biggest scams are listings with just bank transfer as the payment option. If the seller doesn't ship or if something goes wrong, you have zero recourse - besides law enforcement which in my experience rarely leads to any refunds.

I'm actually losing my ebay.de account because I sold too much last year, and they're forcing me to upgrade to a business account which I refuse. I'm cycling through gear, all profits go towards new gear purchases.. I'm not about to pay 20% tax just for my G.A.S. :D

From what I gathered some weeks ago is that they're not actually getting rid of PayPal but dropping it as their main payment option.

Now if they would only get rid of Ebay GSP and Ebay sellers would all just shift to Ebay international standard delivery! I ain't paying for some middle man in Kentucky!

I'm not sure how it works but I sold something a couple weeks back, the payer was able to pay using PayPal, but the proceeds went to eBay which then paid me directly to my bank a couple days later

You can set it up on the web site - it's not hard just have to find the right menu

It was confusing in that I got a notice saying "paid ok to ship" but couldn't see the cash on account

I have enough junk off Ebay as it is. 22 years. This will make it easier to break with them. I bought batteries that I need for work from them, just because it was quick and easy and I save a lot of money working at home- so did not bother ordering through work.

No, they just wouldn’t ship internationally. The middle man was designed for people who didn’t want to deal with international shipping...

I have not received any such messages regarding the change reported above.
Buying and selling the same, with standard PayPal as the default method of payment, no extra information requested.
I would not provide bank account info or SS number to eBay. PayPal has the security systems needed to protect bank/credit card information. I would be cautious about this message, Rob-F.

The best way to deal with eBay-related issues is to call them directly. At the bottom of most eBay pages you will find how to contact them ("Help and Contact"). Calling is best.

This is legit.

It's not that they are cutting out paypal from buyer's payment options, they are removing paypal in terms of *ebay payments to sellers for sold items*, and sending funds straight to your bank.

This has been rolling out over several months.

In my case they initially rejected my provided bank info as well; they had a secondary confirmation process that ended up getting things straightened out.

The notice I get said there would be a deadline to sign up, Jan 20th, and if you don't, they will disable your ability to make listings or even edit them. Payments received would go to your bank account and not to Paypal anymore.

I'm not going to do it. I'll sit back and see what happens. Good advice here, as usual. Thanks!

I'm not going to do it either, at least not right away. I'll think about it for awhile.

Earlier in the week, I took down my only two active For Sale listings. I have more stuff to sell (not camera stuff), but with the awful USPS service I've gotten on the last couple items I sold, I decided to wait awhile before I list anything else. Looks like I'll be waiting a lot longer now!

Its not a big deal, did a few months ago when they first announced.

I just got off the phone with an eBay Rep. Yes, they are rolling out a system where Ebay, not PayPal, receives payments and then passes the funds over to the seller. It gives Ebay more control over the payment process, including disputes and refunds. Basically, they function as PayPal.

The data requested is the same as used by PayPal now, and will be required for continued use of Ebay. Its gradually happening, so not everyone has yet received the message. I asked them about data encryption and security being used to protect user personal information (PI). It seems standard from what I heard, similar to PayPal. I also suggested that they talk to their development team about highlighting this information about protection of PI in communications with eBay members, as this is an issue of concern for many.

The question I neglected to ask: Will this eliminate the 3-4% PayPal fee?
Hmmmmm...
