Ebay dilema

To EBay, or Not?

To EBay, or Not?

I think you guys have just about talked me out of using EBay to sell, although I have made the occasional purchase.
I was about to sell a Russian "Leica II" I have and maybe a Perkeo I and Bessa I because I thought I'd get better prices than at the local Camera Fair in July, but now I'm having second thoughts!

ebay's standard insurance is up to $200, minus $20(?) handling fee, this is irrespective of the value involved. the main arbitration is done by paypal if the deal is done through it, and as to how paypal acts as a judge when there is a dispute, you can see read many horror stories at: www.paypalsucks.com.

Yes, well the bottom line is they are gangsters in suits. Only competition will civilize them. It's long been the dream and hope of many eBay sellers that Google would take them on, but that has not transpired.

My summary of this thread: Long on EBAY :) !!

gangsters in suits, well put.

If you have ever been engaged in those of Paypal dispute, their emails look the same to me as those from ebay second chance scammer, but the Paypal ones are more polished, or in suits.

Yes we are a bunch of greedy unsophisticated barbarians. Maybe you can shine some of your supremely superior culture this way and lead us out of this darkness!!
You needn't take my comments so personally, I'm confident that the bulk of RFF's US-based members are a very intelligent group of people who are no doubt extremely internet savvy.
I was referring more towards some of the less well-educated folk in your country.. over here we tend to call them "bogans", I believe the term used in America might be "trailer trash"?

As for "leading you out of the darkness", being a humble Australian I can hardly claim to have enough culture to dare try. Anyone observing the behavior of your average Aussie lout in any pub around the world will know just what I'm talking about!

I'm not American. I may have bid a bid I didn't think would win on a camera with a zero rating, but I would never pay for such without paypal. I have bought over 40 cameras on ebay and never been ripped off once, and got some bargains saving hundreds if not thousands. I have also sold a lot of camera equipment on ebay for much better prices than I could in the second hand shop. So although I agree about being careful, generally i have found it to be much better than if it was not around!

I agree 100%. Ebay is great overall -- it's just that the biggest threat to eBay sometimes seems to be eBay forgetting what got them there.

I dunno, I bought a Leica R24mm user on second chance for $170.00. Seller had good feedback& track record though. Probably would'nt have done it without feedback.

NEVER accept second chance offers OR pony up for sellers with few transactions or low feedback, Ever. That is my policy in 300 transcactions.

Yes, these offers can be enticing. That is what fraud is all about.

Caveat Emptor!

Please stay away for this
i got ripped on a second chance on the price of an m6
and he did not have paypal
NEVER NERVER DO IT
