Never shot Ektar, but love Portra... looking at these shots makes me want to buy some! Its got a color pallet like my dreams...

I have a love/hate feeling toward Ektar. For me, the lighting must be right, the exposure dead-on, and a modern lens usually helps. My older lenses--less saturated, lower contrast--tend not to give weird results, particularly too much magenta. But other times I comes out well.

That's an interesting point. All my lenses are older, and I've seen plenty of magenta- & cyan-heavy photos when I didn't nail the exposure. I never thought about the lenses contributing, but it might be another factor. I really do want to love Ektar, but my results simply aren't consistent enough to get past simply liking it (admittedly, the lack of consistency is likely entirely my own fault). But when it's good, it is so good....

I love the combo of Ektar and a Rollei Automat.

I am pretty sure Ektar 100 hasn't even been around 8 years. I thought it came out around 2008 or 2009.

Well i'm looking at another 2 rolls i have Ektar 25 exp 02/95
and Ektar 1000 exp 02/94 😛

My bad. It's an Ektar 100 thread, so I assumed that's the film you were referring to.

Yes Ektar was introduced in 1989 in speeds 25 ASA 125 ASA and 1000ASA they changed the 125 to 100 in the early 1990's the film was superseded by Royal Gold in 1995-6. The 120 version was produced a little longer, possibly until 1999.

The second coming of Ektar was in this century.🙂

One of my better composition, taken while hiking to the top of Multmonah Falls, OR. Ektar 100 on 35mm format, Nikon FM3a, 35-105mm AF-D, f/8, 3 sec., cir-pol. Just love how the film performed on an overcast day.

I love Ektar the same way I loved the ice cream truck coming through the summer neighborhood when I was six or seven. In hot bright summer I load it into my 80 year old Ikonta 520 with 75/3.5 Tessar.

The Tessar licks the Ektar is like a kid licking ice cream.

I habitually concentrate on BW--even in digital, even with with a sensor like the Merrill noted for its color--but it is deeply satisfying to indulge Ektarphilia at colorful events like the county fair, at the farm market, and fresh graffiti walls contrasted with our deep blue summer skies.... Once I'm fully retired I hope to play rainbird more often, leaving our wet grays for a week or two of tropical pastels. And Ektar.

Here's a couple of contrasting scenes taken on Ektar 100. The robust colour rendering suits the older cameras, and with the combination of MF and low grain the pictures 'blow' up quite well.
