Electro GT does not Clunk, Thunk or otherwise make much noise at all.

My new Electro GT (Made in Japan, recessed bottom, ASA to 500) makes hardly any sound at all. Just a light click when the shutter is depressed and a very quiet film advance. My first roll of film is in it now.

Based on what I've read about the Electro series, I'm assuming the pad of death shot, but could the GT's be different?

Will this seriously affect my shutter speeds? What other problems might I encounter if this pad is not repaired?

I'm not an expert, others here will likely have more info than I, but here's what I do know.
I beleive that the "T's" and "S's" are mechanically identical, and if the POD is bad, it will affect the slow speeds, ie. at about 1/30th of a second and under, but the higher ones could work perfectly. My GS has this problem and if the yellow (under) light comes on, then the shutter speed will not be correct.
If the yellow light comes on, and you push the shutter button to take your shot, it would seem as if it is on "bulb", that is, the shutter stays open as long as the button is depressed, then you will know for sure that something is not working right.
At all the higher speeds my GS works great!
It might be worth a wasted frame to try this out.
Try the "Yashica Guy" website that has a lot of info about these cameras, if you haven't already.

Use the search function of RFF 's tool bar here for more info on your camera. I'd say that you should run the film thru first before assuming any issues about the camera. One thing you should do is take the battery out and have it checked to ensure it has power. Go to Radio Shack. They can tell you if the battery is dead.

My guess is your camera is fine. Finish the roll and process it to see what you get before sending it out.

I'd go along with jan.. and not just because he'd beat me senseless if I contradicted him.. run a roll of film through it first.. just do a walk around the house and shoot anything that doesn't get out of your way.. gt the film processed asap, and you won't have to wonder any more if you have a problem

The 'click' or 'clunk' is heard not when the shutter is released but after when you wind-on.

The shutter does stay open (like on bulb) at speeds lower than 1/30th, otherwise the camera appears to work great. The roll of b&w I ran through came out very nice.

So.. It's worth it to me to get the pad replaced. I'm going to take a look in the archives and other posts to hunt down someone to CLA it and replace the POD.
