Hey guys,

Do what's the final verdict - can this lens be safely colapsed into an M240? Been reading so many conflicting reports! 🙁

Cheers,

Johann

I hope this is conclusive enough! See the reply from Leica below:

"You can use the Elmar 50 mm on the Leica M ( Typ 240 ). The can be collapse for transportation.

The newer elmars don´t collapse as the first elmar mounts or even like the second generation ones.

But this is good news anyway.

There is no substantial difference in the collapsed depth of the various versions. The problem is not that the lens could foul the shutter - the shutter- flange distance is exactly the same in a film camera. There is a concern that the side of the lens might hit the throat of the camera; a damage that a dollop of flat black paint will cure. That is all.

As well as the 50mm Elmar M using an LTM adapter the 50mm Summitar and 3.5cm Elmar also collapse without trouble on the M240.

I have extensively used the 50 Elmar M pictured above on the M9 and the Monochrom without a problem. It is best to have the lens extended and locked for mounting and unmounting so as not to scratch the more confined lens cavity. For unmounting I have sometimes forgotten to do this, but still no problem with that, so far.
