I Shoot Film

Nobbylon, you have to knw what kind of picture you want to make and then choose a lens that fits your genre or your way of shooting. You won't shoot the same things in the same way with a Summilux or with an Elmar. May I suggest you to test a modest but incredibly good 3.5 Elmar. With its dedicated hood, it's still a very small and terrific performer.

Noel, The Elmar I've had was a stunning performer, and was very close to the Summicron for street photography (at 5.6 or 8). Mine was a f3.5 uncoated (1939) Elmar but it was very contrasty and more flare resistant with its small hood than my Summicron (rigid) with the 12538 hood. Even wide open, it was a great performer. (see below).
To be honnest, I'm really considering selling the Summicron to get back an Elmar (or a totally different modern lens like the Planar). I'm not so much convinced by the quality/character of the Summicron (mine is in perfect condition).
f16 / 125, on M2. (flare resistant? yes it is! The high contrast is due to the choice of exposure)
Wide open, on Leica III, mounted on the NOOKY device (very sharp even wide open)
f4, on Leica III (no bad for portrait, isn't it)

"Murder" may be a bit of an overstatement, especially if you are comparing the latest Elmar-M to a collapsible 'Cron.Xmas said:A collapsible summicron or summitar will/may squeeze into the compact ERC...
The cron will murder the Elmar at f/4, if it does not flare..
