Personally I've never seen any flare with my Elmar-M, but I don't use it very often. Usually I prefer the Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.5. That lens is more practical, no sliding in and out every time. Curiously, this lens too has the rear element uncoated. And you can use it on LTM.

So, Eric, would you say the CV lens has the imaging properties of the Elmar-M? Nothing lacking, no disappointments? If so, it would be a better value!

I rate the CV Color-Skopar very high, mechanically, optically and ergonomically. Of course, it is different from the Elmar-M. It's advantages are: it is an LTM lens (also usable on LTM-Leicas) and it is mechanically more practical, no sliding in or out. See my Flickr for many shots with the lens. I've been using it since 2002.
No dissapointments. Buy one if you can find one!

Thanks for the reply, Eric. "No sliding in or out" was one of the reasons for developing the rigid Summicron. It was felt that the collapsible feature of the version 1 made it unstable. I don't know why Leica apparently felt it would be all right to make the new Elmar collapsible, unless its slower speed makes the "instability" unimportant. Or possibly it has an improved mechanism? And maybe this applies to the 90mm f/4 Macro-Elmar, also collapsible.
Is the Color-Skopar as sharp as the version 2 Elmar? Does it have some of the same character you admire in the Elmar? It does seem to, in some of the shots you posted. That could have more to do with your style than with the lens, though!

It is about as sharp, but has a different "signature". More plasticity. It is more like the Summicron 50mm f/2 rigid. This is at full aperture:

Nice Monochrome shots, Helen! I love the light in the first one.
