Elmar-M 50mm 2.8 II

Aaron,

The Elmar-M is a recent acquisition.
I was looking for a relative slow 50 and I hear only good things about it from users on this forum (look at the photos posted by Erik), from a guy I met in the street that was using it on a digital M and also reading about it on line (Marco Cavina as an interesting article on leica M 50s and the elmar-m is included, the article also indicates the peculiarity of the front element (high refraction and reduced dispersion).
This is something Erik also posted on RFF recently.
If you don´t need F1.4 of F2 this may be your best bet.
The only negative point is the locking mechanism once extended as it is too easy to de-collapse the lens by accident but there´s an easy fix solution that I found searching this forum (still have to give it a try).

Hope this help you.

Love my Elmar-M. This is Ari, a trained Sinologist now working for the MLA, asking an erudite question while relaxing at his cabin the Catskills. July 2016.

Giulio: If you do not stop posting those wonderful photos, I will end up buying that lens. I do not need one, but this pics are really terrific!!

Thank you Helen.

Looking at your signature it seems you are now into 35s again :) what´s happen to the 50s?

btw, I have a roll I shoot with my summaron that is drying at the moment, will post into the summaron thread asap.

I'm currently without a 50 in M mount - I think this is the one I want. I love the rendering! I'd sure like to find one that is six bit coded, though.

Nice one Gary.

Helen, the opposite for me...I am playing with the elmar-m to get myself more into the 50 after few years of 35 only. I actually got myself 3 50s in less than one year...but the nikkor 5cm 1.4 I could not use it yet since I need to get an adapter for it (it is an s-mount).

Few more from the usual playground.

Ken, good luck! Hope you could get your hand on a coded one!

They're very uncommon. Your best bet would be to find an uncoded lens for a good price, then send it to Leica to be six bit coded.

I don't know that it would be cost effective - last I heard Leica USA wanted something like $400 to convert.
