Elmar-M 50mm 2.8 II

I suspect the answer is no. The Elmar M is something special. Certainly that Summarit 2.5 is very compact, however.

I just paged through this whole thread. Some wonderful photos, especially from Erik.

Yeah...the last time I spoke with Tom A. he was suggesting that the lens was discontinued primarily because it was making a huge dent in Summicron sales. Tom had so much praise for this lens.

Definitely a really great lens all around. I'm a little hesitant with collapsible lenses, but I've owned 2 of these elmar-m's (black and silver) and ended up keeping the silver. It's incredibly small and unbelievably sharp. It stands up to any other 50 I've owned, and will definitely not be selling my copy. I don't use it a ton, but it's a great lens to have for traveling light....

Mine makes beautiful images, nice color, nice out of focus, sharp as a Summicron stopped down to 4. 2.8 is very useable. I have used it for B&W where it also excels.

In my opinion, it images much the same as my 50 1.4 ASPH which I also love.

It is also a perfect companion to my 75 Summicron image quality wise.
