Hi Everyone,

What is the optimal/maximal size that can be made by enlarging an XPan panoramic or a normal 24x36mm negative?

As big as you like 😉 I just came back from a job interview at a place where they have a Durst laser enlarger that can crank out images up to something like 4m*2m . If you feel like it you can scan a 24*36mm neg and print it that size 😉 Of course you'd have to look at it from a few meters away even with very fine grained film to not get a spotty mess. But what I'm getting at is that there isnt a size limit, jsut depends on what you're using to enlarge the image 🙂

OK then,

If I sanned my slides and the scanned image would be 7920x5328 pixels, this is a 67x45 cm printout using 300pixels/inch.

Would this size be enjoyable or something not much smaller.

The thing is that I can't quite make up my mind wheter I need the Scan Dual IV or the Scan Elite 5400 II.

depends on the negative, and how far away you're going to look at it from 😉 If you have a relatively fine grained negative that should look ok from about a metre of two away.

I dont mind grain much and have printed 3200 ISO Tri-x up to 24*30cm, and I like the result very much, it all depends on your own tastes I'm afraid 🙂
