OK, I'll try one more time to post this correctly!
Any advice on an Epson 4490, V500 , or any other scanner for 35mm up to 6x9? (mostly 120 film)
Thanks! RB

Well, here's a 35mm shot taken this Sunday and scanned on my V500

I've got the 4490. Quality of these flatbeds seems to be hit-n-miss. The first I had good results, but it only completed a scan half-way through. The second is very soft, even when shimming, a total POS.

I'm having medium format issues at the moment with the 4490. Sometimes it's just streaks other times it's as bad as this
best of luck

RB I see you've only 15 posts so may I suggest you use the search function here at RFF. You will find a lot on these scanners. To get you started here's a link on the V500 http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49032
Here's a MF shot of mine scanned on the 4490

I think this might be a software issue, a re-install may get rid of that.

I have never experienced any difficulties with either a 4490 or my V500.

Ray, great shots! Your late portra series are outstanding. You're mastering the scanners!
How's life? You should post more often.

Ned, comment ça va? So, you saw my Portra shots of the colored material? I've been following your new stuff - by the way when are you going to post it to your site? I noticed that you've been shooting quite a bit of color. Love it!

I too use the 4990. No complaints. It works fine with no fiddling. I much prefer Epson's own software to any third party stuff I've tried, like Vuescan or Silverfish (or whatever it's called). I do use the Better Scanning film holders and anti-newton glass which give great results and to me are well worth the relatively modest expense.michaelging said:I do not have a 4490 , but I do have the 4990 and its scans great. I just hate the 35mm holder though, and that keeps me using the Nikon 9000 at work more than my 4990 at home .
Attached is a sample I did tonight. Ilford 3200, medium format, Mamiya 7II 150mm lens.

I've reinstalled, tried vuescan, and tried a different computer. It's ok.

Web posts don't do the MF scans justice, but here is a 2x3 crop of a shot (180/4.5 Super on the Mamiya C3, Delta 100 souped in D76) scanned on the V500 using the Epson software and betterscanning holder with the ANR glass insert. I love this setup.

Mamiya Medium Format... that reminds me, I have one of those!
Yes, the web doesn't do justice to them, but we can try! Nice shots!

Love that last shot! The aura on the bodies in the sun adds a surreal quality to the image. Is that one of the newer IR films? Which one and how processed?

John - its Efke 820 IR in my Mamiya 7II. Processed in Tmax for (I believe 7 minutes, I have to check my notes). It is fantastic film but really slow - I rated it about 3-6 with an R72 filter.
It has the glow but very little grain compared to HIE. I hope Efke will keep this around a long time, losing HIE is a disaster...
