In my country (Switzerland), the Epson Service department is outsourced to another company (ESAG), which also offers services for Eizo, Psion, Samsung, IBM, NEC and other brands.
I had the rangefinder issue, and the warranty service had to be done in France as they had never seen a R-D1 before and could first not believe it's an Epson product. I got the camera back, poorly packaged, with a stronger disalignment than before. It's possible the camera was well aligned in France's Epson centre, and got banged and disaligned again afterwards in the shipment from ESAG to me. I don't know.
I could have refused it but preferred to let it done by DAG, on my costs.
I wouldn't trust any Epson service centre nowhere anymore. because Epson s-u-c-k-s.
