Epson XP-600 for Scanning Film?

Has anyone tried scanning film with an Epson XP-600 all-in-one?

I have been using an Epson Perfection 4990 Photo scanner for some time, but recently I had a major computer crash because of a rootkit virus that required formatting my hard drive and reinstallation of all my software. The computer is a Dell running Windows 7, 64-bit. When I first got it in 2011, I had much trouble getting it to run the 4990. It was finally resolved with a 90-minute phone call to Epson support, but they don't offer that service any more.

Right now, I'm looking for an alternate solution, and since I have the XP-600 which I use for printing on DVDs, I wondered how that scanner would work with film.

Based on the info at Epson's site, the XP600 lacks the ability to scan film. It has do "backlight" in the cover. It is only useful for scanning reflective materials (e.g. prints).

I'd suggest giving VueScan a try

Using VueScan with your old 4990 would be a reasonable solution.

You may also find that downloading and installing the newest version of EpsonScan will work without the gynmastics your older version required. EpsonScan has been updated since the early Win7 days. I've had do difficulty with the current version on either Win8/64bit or Win8.1/64bit with my v700.

Too bad the XP-600 won't work.

I downloaded the latest EpsonScan software for the 4990, but it doesn't work either. I may have to use Vuescan, but I really don't care for the program.

I can't believe that Epson Scan won't work with Windows 7. I would be all over Dell to make Epson Scan work. The Epson 4990 is a GREAT scanner. Make it work!

We need more input. Tell us what Epson Scan is or is not doing correctly. Just saying "Epson Scan isn't working" is not much help. One of the things you must do is start the 4990 first. When it is up and running, then you open the Epson Scan software. Is Epson Scan and the TWAIN driver installed correctly? Are you trying to scan from an Adobe product?
