Just wanted to start a quick poll on which lenses are the "essentials" for your Leica kit. I love Leica glass, and have way too much of it to even be proud of. Perhaps I should liken it to more of a sickness or chronic disorder. In any case....for me, the essential Leica glass is as follows:

35mm f2 Summicron ASPH
35mm f2.8 Summaron
50mm f1.4 Summilux ASPH/Pre-asph
75mm f1.4 Summilux

Anyone else have "necessity" type lenses, or lenses you just couldn't live without?

BTW, Zeiss and Voigtlander count too! I just went with my gold standard glass...

Jordan, I share the sickness.

But the one lens I wouldn't want to be without is the 50mm e46 Summilux-M.

Summilux 75mm/f1.4
Elmar-M 50mm/f2.8
UC-Hexanon 35mm/f2

Not necessarily my most-used lenses but they're the "can't live without" ones I'd replace if lost - assuming I could find and afford the replacements, which is far from assured for two of them.

...Mike

My line of thought: If I lost all my equipment today, and could only buy stuff that I owned just prior to the loss; in which order would I repurchase?
My immediate thought was a M6 classic and the Voigtlander 28/2. That would essentially be all I need.

Leica Elmar 50/3.5

Canon 50/1.8

CV 28/3.5

Call me a bottom feeder, but these are great lenses that I could not live w/out.

Mine are both humble and not so humble.
CLE rokkor f2/40mm for humble. Not so Hex limited f1.2/50mm and Dual FL f3.4/21mm/35mm.
The Nikkor ltm f1.8/35mm and f1.4/50mm are essential as my BW only film kit.

This thread will end up as a list of every M/LTM lens ever produced.

Exactly, grouped by personal preference.

Anyway, my essentials are the CV 21/f4, and the 50/f1.5 Jupiter-3.
If there has to be at least one Leica lens in the list, the one I'm shooting the most currently is not a rangefinder lens - the Elmarit-R 90/f2.8.

Essential... 21 mm Super-Angulon - 50 mm DR Summicron.
Optional... 135mm f/2.8 Elmarit.

(I'm considering a 35mm Summilux)

Essential ... changes with time for me. It was Noctilux & 35mm Summilux-M pre-ASPH. Nowadays it is 40mm M-Rokkor & 50mm Summicron-M. It might change to 35mm Summicron-M (any version) in the future. :p

Essential, currently owned and in order of necessity:
ZM 50 C Sonnar
Leica 35 Summicron v4
ZM 21 4.5 C Biogon
Leica 90 Elmarit-M
ZM 25 Biogon

The 35/2.8 Summaron with Eyes is about my Leica-M price limit these days - I own a good one and will never sell it. I love the 50mm Cron's, but they are more expensive now than they are worth, with so many other fine 50's around. Luxes are amazing lenses, but they now cost as much as a decent family vacation or a good used car. I wouldn't mind owning another clean 5cm F3.5 Elmar one of these days as a consolation - they may be the best Leica bang for the money and they make a bottom loader a pocketable power house of a 35mm film camera (while they are still "affordable").
